The To Do List Thread - Page 2

Ok, I've accomplished a few things here but have had to add some too so I still don't feel like I've done much. I only hope I can get most of it done before my bubble pops.

1. Sign up for diaper service
2. Buy diaper covers (done)
3. Construct mei tais
4. Make nursing pads (decided to buy them instead)
5. Organize the home birth supplies
6. Divide up baby clothes; 1/2 upstairs, 1/2 downstairs (done)
7. Make shopping list of labor food
8. Cover the pads for the baby basket
9. Make baby's blanket
10. Buy a dowel to hang the organizer (done)
11. Move our bed against the wall (done)
12. Still waiting for the pool to show up (it's here)
13. Buy nursing bras since the old ones don't fit this time
14. Make up "things to do when labor starts" list for DF
15. Pack the just-in-case bag in the event of a hospital transfer

I need my husband's employer to give him his W-2's so we can get our tax return and get some baby stuff.

Around 36 weeks I'm going to start washing diapers and clothes. I don't expect to go before 40 weeks.

I totally need to do this. I've been thinking for the last week that I actually need to sit down and write a list, or nothing will ever get done. This is as good a place as any!

Becky's To-Do List:
  1. Wash Ergo and Ring Sling.
  2. Wash car seat cover.
  3. Sew Boppy slip cover. (SIL might be purchasing one for me?)
  4. Sew at least 1 pair of baby moc's.
  5. Sew DIAPERS!! (Okay, I've given up on having time for NB dipes- I'll buy a cheap system for NB's, and do sewing for size small.)
  6. Review Bradley Method techniques with DH.
  7. Pull out/set up the co-sleeper and rearrange the bedroom to work with a baby.
  8. Clean out the fridge/freezer.
  9. Sew baby blanket(s) with already purchased fabric. Done!
  10. Pick a name for the baby. I think this might be done! DH and I both like Alexander Boden right now.
  11. Clean the house, especially get the bedroom and master bathroom in ideal condition. Due date: 36 weeks. DONE!!!!!!
  12. Get the mattress OFF THE FLOOR!!!! Getting out of bed is getting too hard! Done! Whew!
  13. Finalize plans for help with other children during the birth. Done!
  14. Go through baby clothes, make sure there are enough 0-3 month pieces. Done!
  15. Clean out dresser drawers to make room for baby clothes. Done!
  16. Clean baby clothes and put them away. Done! Can't wait to dress baby!
  17. Purchase Official Birth Kit. Done!!
  18. Purchase and assemble supplies for homebirth into one location. Done!
  19. Sew pouch carrier. Done! Just have to see if it will fit after the baby is born, now

:

Perhaps we all need to check out the "women who do to much" affirmation book.
Today:
1) car seat accessories (whatever they call the little things to hold the head up, soften the belt straps)
2) still haven't gotten diaper changing pads
3) call around for futons
4) sigh, yoga.

1. Buy diaper pins
2. MAKE AND FREEZE FOOD – this is happening this weekend, damn it. I know that it will SAVE us after the birth, and that I will be furious with myself if I don’t do it.
3. Make a LOT of cat food. I usually make a 6 week supply, I will shoot for at least two months this time. I think I will do that this weekend too, so it’s off of my mind.
4. Buy disposable incontinence pads for the birth.
5. Hand-write notices refusing eye-goop and Vitamin K shot.
6. Buy or make nursing pads
7. Hem blankets from flannel that Gramma sent (it’s so pretty!!)
8. WASH all of the baby clothes and diapers I have, plus the handed-down afghan blanket
9. Buy fitted crib sheets, wash them – wait until after the shower
10. Buy mattress cover for crib - wait until after the shower
11. Make “sidecar bridge” blanket for under baby and mommy to catch diaper spills and nursing leaks
12. Buy a lot of baking soda, bulk, for washing diapers, buy extra laundry soap too
13. Buy or make a “wet” diaper bag for walks and wanderings.
14. Stock-up on bulk staples. Flour, cornmeal, oatmeal, dry beans, sugar, lactation tea, canned tomatoes, potatoes, etc.

OMG! I forgot about the car seat. I think I will lose my mind....

We don't have a car, but I guess we should have one.

Oh, and DH needs to re-calk the bath tub. I haven't been reminding him, so I guess I should start.

If it's any consolation, I need to call britax like NOW and see if our seat will be useable this time. Ohterwise, we have to get ds a booster, and another carseat:

OK - Just wanted to say that I admire you all but I can't do more that skim your lists without starting to hyperventilate!!! Congrats to all of you marking off those tasks!

The things on my list right now are: work 40+ hours a week, choose an elementary school for ds before the district deadline, and try to fit in yoga, acupuncture, and chiro to get this baby to turn...

I did get some newborn diapers and find the pile of 0-6 clothes so I figure that, worst case, I can throw them in the laundry on the way to the hospital and the friend who is taking care of ds #1 can put them in the dryer and bring a few to the hospital!!!

Trinitty- eh on the car. We don't own one (may buy a used one this week actually, but that's only because of expecting #2 and having a lot of house projects we're working on. I never felt like I needed one with just one kiddo (we do live in a city on good bus lines). She was totally hapy being worn everywhere and loved the vibrations of the bus lol. At 2.5 she loves the bus- puts in my fare for me, gets our transfer, pulls the cord- knows the whole routine I feel very conflicted about buying a car- I think with two it will make life much easier, and allow us to more easily keep doing the stuff I love to do with DD1, but it has been so nice being car-free for this long, it's sad to be changing that.
ok, got my carseat dilema taken care of. New parts are ordered, just need to wash the cover and get a booster this month

Good idea! Okay:

--Pick up pram from shop
--Paint baby's room (and preferably the whole house...)
--Sort out shelving/basket system for baby's wardrobe
--Sort through hand-me-down baby clothes according to size
--Make list for Mum to pass along to baby shower guests of stuff we still need
--Buy maternity bras
--Freeze 3 weeks' worth of meals (that's minimum, but it's a start)
--Wash hand-me-down baby clothes that smell musty
--Write 4 more articles for Suite101 so as to fulfil the 3 month minimum before the baby's born
--Pick up birthing pool
--Make postpartum pads
--Shortlist some names!
--Get house in decent shape (yes, that is vague and wishy-washy...).
--Master and make list of several extremely quick hairstyles, to prevent me from walking around in week-old fuzzy sleep braids after the baby's born
--Drink RRL tea every day
I'm getting motivated just reading through all your lists - and is is great to know that I am not the only one who is not totally ready for this kiddo!!

Here is mine:
- pack up and organize "catch all room" to make space for baby stuff
- figure out what to do with ds's clothes so I can use his dresser for
baby/changing stuff
- take out toys that ds has outgrown and put them in garage (aka storage)
- find baby clothes and accessories in said storage
- wash and prep baby clothes, at least ones that can be unisex. Organize
the rest.
- wash and organize diapers
- do taxes
- finish my year end billing
- gather home birth supplies
- get ds a new car seat
- wash and prep infant car seat
- get sling back from friend
- get out co sleeper and set up
- move ds to dh's side of the bed
- plan and prep food for birth
- wash windows
- deep clean van
- get birthing videos and watch with ds

: Oh my, this is just off the top of my head. The list will probably get longer before it gets shorter!!

...Aaaand, that's about it as far as updates go. But I have done quite a lot. I've washed down the walls in the baby's room, puttied up the holes and sanded down said walls. Now all I need to do is glue down some of the wallpaper (we have to paint over it); and then I can't do much until the landlord buys us the paint. But we've chosen a colour, so that's something.

And I've started sanding down a horrible old green chest of drawers from DH's childhood, to renovate for the baby. With new knobs, new paint and a changing pad on the top it won't look too hideous (I hope)... and it's free!

Sadly the sorting through of baby clothes made me realise I have a lot less newborn-sized stuff than I thought. I need to hit the op shops... also for finding some wicker baskets for the baby's room, and possibly an uber-cheap comfortable nursing chair.

It feels so good to get SOMETHING marked off this list!! I have made good progress with the room clear out as well, but this task is a bit overwhelming!

Okay, I don't have anything new to tick off yet--oh, yes, I do, 'pick up pram from shop'. But anyway, I have done a LOT of work. The chest of drawers is nearly sanded down. Between now and Friday I need to finish sanding it, paint it with primer, finish fixing the walls in the baby's room (glueing down gross old wallpaper and so on), and sand the windowsills and frames--ghastly job, that. Then on Friday 10 litres of 'Dutch White' paint arrive, and I can start on the actual painting!

Mum very kindly took me out today (DH and I don't have a car) to hunt for curtains, buy odds and ends for painting, and some wood to make shelves for the wardrobe, and get some fabric to cover the baskets. I've found two of those so far, wicker ones from an op shop which will hopefully look a lot classier when I've painted them (just the funny-coloured one, not the nice one) and lined them with fabric and a ruffle. I chose nice, countryish-themed colours--beige and brown and cream and a kind of dusky pink which I'm fairly certain isn't too girly. And I'm gonna edge them with narrow dark chocolate ribbon when I can find some--I think they'll look good!

The feeling of accomplishment *almost* mitigates the fact that my hair has gone prematurely grey from the paint dust. Why grey, I wonder--it was green paint. Strange world.
