UPDATED

1. Buy diaper pins - Ordered Online. Should be here in two weeks.

2. MAKE AND FREEZE FOOD – Hasn't happened yet. Should happen this weekend since it's a three-day long one. Soups, stews, casseroles, healthy "cookies," pancakes and cornbread.

3. Make a LOT of cat food. I usually make a 6 week supply, I will shoot for at least two months this time. I think I will do that this weekend too, so it’s off of my mind. DONE! Our fridge freezer is full of catfood. I watched Terminator and Terminator II while grinding up hearts, livers, bones and muscles!! . The original is WAY better than the sequel...

4. Buy disposable incontinence pads for the birth. - Not yet.

5. Hand-write notices refusing eye-goop and Vitamin K shot. - Not yet.

6. Buy or make nursing pads. - In progress, I can finish these this week.

7. Hem blankets from flannel that Gramma sent (it’s so pretty!!) - Used some of it to make a leak-proof "bridge blanket" for our side-carred crib and bed. Looks really nice.

8. WASH all of the baby clothes and diapers I have, plus the handed-down afghan blanket. - Not yet. Probably this weekend when we do adult laundry.

9. Buy fitted crib sheets, wash them – wait until after the shower. - Done. They are on the crib. Made in Canada!

10. Buy mattress cover for crib - wait until after the shower. - Done. Got one for my shower.

11. Make “sidecar bridge” blanket for under baby and mommy to catch diaper spills and nursing leaks. - DONE. I could add a rainbow ribbon trim to it if I want to get fancy.

12. Buy a lot of baking soda, bulk, for washing diapers, buy extra laundry soap too . - Not yet.

13. Buy or make a “wet” diaper bag for walks and wanderings. - Not yet.

14. Stock-up on bulk staples. Flour, cornmeal, oatmeal, dry beans, sugar, lactation tea, canned tomatoes, potatoes, etc. - Not yet. Waiting until payday.

OMG! I forgot about the car seat. I think I will lose my mind....

We don't have a car, but I guess we should have one. - We are probably getting a two year old one from a friend this weekend.

20. Mix together an energy drink using teas, pedialyte, honey, etc, and freeze it for labour. I really dislike Gatorade. I think I will need some new ice-cube trays to use though, since I’m not comfortable with plastic.

21. Mix together an herbal bath bag for post-delivery soaks.

22. Buy a present for the midwife

23. Buy announcement cards.

24. Buy, write and send thank-you cards for the gifts we received.

25. Buy 2 binders and a lot of letter-sized transparent pockets to keep scraps and cards and such. One for baby stuff, the other for my career stuff so I can look back on it later in an organized way.

26. Learn to use my new digital camera…. Am a long-time film shooter and I’ve held-out until now. I need to know how to use this new device well, and make sure it is up to par.

--Get house in decent shape (yes, that is vague and wishy-washy...).--Work in progress...
--Master and make list of several extremely quick hairstyles, to prevent me from walking around in week-old fuzzy sleep braids after the baby's born--I've been using the good old-fashioned rose bun a lot while painting, but I need to figure out how to use my Ficarre more efficiently without my hair falling down.
--Drink RRL tea every day--Doing OK at that!

Time for another update--we are now moving forward on selling our house, so there's even more to be done--whee!


1) Deep clean: bathroom, kitchen, living room, baby room/study (more like, book a cleaner to do this!)

3) Move all extra clothes, Christmas stuff etc. into storage-DONE
4)Get out the following from our friends' basement: bucket seat, baby clothes, bouncy chair. (DONE!)
5) Clean all the laundry in the house & put it away-not done!
6) Reorganize bedroom-DONE & set up sidecar crib-not yet, will borrow cosleeper from friends later, and will just use bedrail at first.
7) Purchase: snowsuit or warm seat cover for wee babe--DONE.

12) Fill freezer--GETTING THERE, we went to Supperworks & made 18 meals on Wednesday! And we got some more yummy stuff at Beth's surprise shower last weekend.

14) Homevisit from midwife (Booked for Feb. 26th)

Today was sooooooooooooooooooooo productive. once I get started, I can't stop cleaning, apparently. I went from one project to the next....bam bam bam. I still feel the rush.lol

I cleaned out one closet completely, in our hallway. The other one will get cleaned out tomorrow or this week. I also organized like crazy and rearranged stuff today, with half my bedroom repainted.

We bought a carseat yesterday and I don't know why but that made it feel real. I don't know why. I mean there is a birth tub sitting in my living room is that not real enough.

I feel the same way! We set up the pack and play yesterday next to the bed, and I said to my husband, "Oh my god, we're going to have a baby!!"
I think it's related to my idea of giving birth having little to nothing nothing to do with the idea of having a baby in the house.

- get birthing videos and watch with ds picked up a video at the midwife's. just need to watch it.

: I am so freaking excited to have this room done. It took FOREVER. Turns out this will be the birthing room because it is the only room in the house where the birth tub can be so it became very important to have it all organized and decluttered. Now I only have to clean it, shouldn't take too long.

Whew, now that that monstrous chore is done I can move on to more exciting things like bringing down all the cute little baby clothes!

I have also been organizing and cleaning random parts of the house. Whatever is bugging me at the moment. The place is really coming together and I am hoping for a total clean and organized house by the time the little one arrives! Of course, I am going to concentrate on the things that NEED to be done before the birth first..........

Ok, I haven't done even half the stuff on my list and I'm not gonna! HA! Approaching 38 weeks on Thursday has made me prioritize things a little more realistically. The only things I REALLY want to have done before this baby is born are my belly cast and finish painting the dining room (which should get done tonight). Everything else can wait. I need to get my house clean and I know it's not going to happen if I'm obsessing about the mei tai that I need to serge or the liner for the baby basket that we'll probably never use anyway. I'm just so sick of being pregnant now that I'm debating investing in a pair of nipple clamps to wear under my clothes while I'm doing all this ridiculous nesting stuff. Stick a fork in me, I'M DONE!

We decided to go with purchased CDs instead of a service or disposables. It's true the up front investment is daunting, but we calculated it would pay for itself in 3 months and if we have more kids it's all gravy.

Not sure where you are located (or if it matters) but we used Sunflower Babies to purchase them. Jen, the owner, was great and taught us everything about CDs. My DH was worried about the washing aspect, but she explained it was really no big deal. Just run through cycle on cold, run through cycle on hot with extra rinse, and throw in dryer. Simple. Now we haven't actually attempted to use these yet since the baby hasn't arrived, but it made fiscal and environmental sense.

We were able to purchase all organic diapers which was important to me (and they are sooo soft.)

I just finished pre-washing all today.

Clean house - super important b/c our house is a sty (I have been on bedrest for a month and hubby was raised by wolves (only dirty, dirty wolves.)

Assemble pack n play and bassinett

Take breastfeeding class

Install car seat

Make frozen meals

Get nursing bras

Finish hypnobabies course

Learn to use breast pump

Ummm- probably a ton more but my mind is shutting down just thinking about all left to do!!!

*sigh* Still doing stuff, still have more to do...

I painted one coat on the hallway today! And I painted a shelf for the baby's room, which my mother gave me. I need to touch it up tomorrow, and hopefully get DH to put it up (and put the Roman blind back up in the baby's room, too) before he leaves for his conference. He's decided to take his motorbike instead of carpooling with a friend, in case I go into labour.

Today DH went shopping and bought lots of ingredients, so while he's gone I'll make a bunch of food to freeze. We have 4 frozen meals so far, and I want 3 weeks' worth minimum. I have to make spinach and ricotta lasagne, devilled sausages, lentil and tomato lasagne, chicken soup and chicken casserole, at least.

I think all that all that nessecary stuff like buying nursing bras will just have to wait!lol

I guess I plan to use my maternity camisole bra tops until I lose the engorgement. I will mostly be at home during that time anyway/hopefully! Then when my weight drops down again I can buy stuff I will wear awhile, and use stuff I already have.


I guess as far as cooking goes, I am just trying to freeze portions of large things. And serve us one or two meals on the rest. Right now I have had beef stew in the crockpot overnight. I will freeze most of that. Whatever else I decide to make this week will end up in the freezer as well, hopefully. We alwasy have leftovers because my kids are so picky.


So today I plan to knock out another wall (painted, not literally knocked out!) in the bedroom, and move the rest of the stuff to paint the last wall. I need to make yet another trip to Home Depot to get a dinky little hook that will allow me to hang a light from a wall bracket. I think I know what I need.
We are out of veggies. We need to go food shopping. I have this nagging feeling that I need to get the rest of the diapers sewn NOW, so I am working on that today as well.

I need to get the carseat parts, new and old, put back on the seat, put in my car.

I also hope to get our front closet cleaned out, but I may have to wait until dh comes home. He has all his stuff in there. I have to finish reorganizing dh's closet because I took up space he was using for other stuff of his like computer equipment that needs to be out of reach. *SIGH* I guess I apparently created more of a mess there, so will have to work on a system that works for me to put his stuff away where he can find it!

I'm feeling like the end of my to-do list is in reach!!
I keep updating my original post, but I'm reposting it here, separating my "done"s and "to do"s.

1. Purchase and assemble supplies for homebirth into one location. In progress.
2. Wash Ergo and Ring Sling.
3. Wash car seat cover.
4. Sew Boppy slip cover.
5. Sew DIAPERS!! (Okay, I was originally going to sew NB size dipes, but I've given up on that idea, and I'll either use sposies or buy a cheap system for NB's, and do my own sewing for size small.)
6. Sew at least 1 pair of baby moc's.
7. Clean out the fridge/freezer.
8. Finalize plans for help with other children during the birth.
9. Review Bradley Method techniques with DH.
10. Pull out the co-sleeper and rearrange the bedroom to work with a baby.
11. Finish up the maternity sewing, silly! Time's running out! (Honestly think I'm going to skip this at this point. Too much work for not enough reward.)

Okay, I did a fair amount of painting today. The hallway is done, minus the fiddly bits (cornices, door frames and so on), and I've finished one wall in the living room and done one coat on a few more walls.

I also made a huge bunch of chicken stock, and have a chicken casserole and chicken soup sort of half-made. I'll finish and freeze them tomorrow.

DH leaves tomorrow morning for his conference! I'm rather sad, but also kind of bizarrely excited to see how much I can get done before he returns. He has cautioned me sternly about overdoing it, and I do feel pretty rotten, so we'll see; but I'd like to at least have the living room, baby's room and hallway completely finished by his return, and hopefully all the baby's room stuff set up--bassinet in place, changing table/chest of drawers put somewhere and filled with clothes, shelf put up, etc. We'll see how that goes! I might make some more concrete goals tomorrow, with a big Aspergic list to get me motivated.
