can i make my own kombucha from raw GT's kombucha?

is this possible? i bought some yesterday and its so expensive- 3.59$ per bottle, could I make my own using the stuff at the bottom of the bottle? how would this work?

i read through some of the thread but there is way too many posts for me to get the jist of what the basic steps are in preparing this. i get the- find a scooby thing but i dont get the adding the tea part. is there a tutorial anyone knows of that is simple and easy to do?

I just heard yesterday that it is possible to brew kombucha using two bottles of store-bought stuff and just adding your tea/sugar mixture. I heard this by way of my local wapf chapter leader, who heard it from a friend of a friend. Soooooo...I'd be willing to try it though.

I don't know anything about how to grow your own scoby, but I make loads of kombucha myself, and I find that if some of it gets left in the bottle (after I brew it I bottle it to keep the fizz), eventually...like within a few days/week, it will have started its own little scoby. Downright NASTY to get in your mouth! Like a big gob of phlegm. But it seems to me you could just use that to get a scoby, eventually.
