MDC Weight-loss Club: Monday weigh-in (August 25th)

Thread Starter
This is it, last week of August!

Hum... I feel a little bad about being the same weight for soooooo long I won't call myself names because I don't think I'm bad or something... it's just not motivating to see things stagnate like that I had some expectations about summer and weight-loss...

Well, today we are inaugurating our HS routine. I have put physical education 3x/week. And now that my dental infection seems to be under control I will be able to go for a walk when dh will be home.

After being at the same point for this long, I feel entitle to take a fresh start

Last spring I've lost 12 pounds
Right now I'm 145
My first goal: anything under 145 (ok, lets say 140 )
Final goal: 125

Your turn, fellow losers!

Good Morning Valerie!

I like how you have a first goal, I think that's something I could do!

Anyway...

I know I weighed in yesterday, but here is an official weigh in:

Today: 293

Mini goal: 290 for next Mondays weigh-in (but I'll settle for 292)
Final Goal: 160
(do you think MDC will be around that long )
I'm getting out that old pilates tape right after doing this post. I just have to remember baby steps, little bitty baby steps.

edited to add final goal

Starting weight: 145
Last week: 130
This week: 129.5--actually my scale was behaving weirdly. I weighed 128, 129, and 130 and each time the needle returned exactly to 0, so I decided 129.5 was a fair weight to post. This gives me a BMI of 21.2.

Although I've lost 15 pounds since dieting with you all, I realized that since Spring of 2001, I've lost 30 pounds! Twenty of that was due to illness, but even so, I feel pretty pleased.

It's getting more difficult to exercise because it's pretty dark out at 6:00 am, so it's a little spooky to be out running. Going later is not possible because I need to put my 2 older children on the bus at 7:15, and for me, it's easier to work out immediately after getting up. So, as the days get shorter, (and colder) I'm going to have to find some sort of alternative to early morning runs.

Went up a pound, 175.

Though as of this evening am working on something new, actually changing what I eat instead of just trying to eat less. Cutting out dairy, breakfast cereal and breads.

DH brought home pictures from our camping trip (we don't take photographs that often, just always forget) and, whoa, they were seriously depressing. Nothing to tell you you're overweight like some photos ...

Time to take this seriously, I guess.

WOOHOO!!

I can tell I'm serious about this, and I think it helped that I told MIL that I am trying to lose weight(she would love to see me fail).

Last night and the day before she kept asking me if I wanted to stop for ice cream, and I kept telling her no. Hey! That's a BIG thing for me..I love me some ice cream now

We also ate dinner with her and she kept telling me to eat all I want, and I resisted and stayed strong, only ate one plate, instead of all the food(she is really good at guilting people into eating).

Welcome to all the new losers last week and this week. It's so good to have companionship in this process!

Start: 190
Last week: 185
This week: 184
Goal: 140

This week weight is from Monday am, Monday night we celebrated dd's 12th b-day and I ate lasagne and cake with ice cream. So, it may no longer be accurate, but I'm goin' with it!

I ate small portions of the "treat" foods, but boy, did I feel it this morning. Major gastrointestinal distress. Yuk. Don't know if it was the refined carb and fat that did it, but I think so. It really wasn't worth it. I tell ya, if this eating plan changes my body's response to those foods, that will train me not to eat them faster than anything I can think of.

This week is premenstrual week, so I don't expect to lose much, but if I can keep from gaining, I hopefully will get a bigger drop afterwards!

Well, I gained 2 lbs, so I'm 120 now. I feel gross. We went to Canada for a few days and I never eat well on the road, or get exercise. Also it's still the period week, so hopefully better next week.:

You all should be pround of yourselves - there are some real impressive numbers here.

Haven't posted in a while. I've been keeping a journal on lowcarber.org and found it as a great resource also for good low carb recipes.

Starting weight: 215 (Was 232 before Jakob was born)
Current weight:208.5
Goal for August 31st was 208, should make it.
Goal for September 30th: 200

Hey Potty Diva... I just started doing pilates yesterday. I saw the infomercial for Windsor Pilates a few months ago ( like a month after I had Jakob) and ordered it. I did a 20 minute work out yesterday, but today I did a 50 minutes work out and man I am feeling a little sore to say the least (and that's even after doing lots of the "modified" versions of things).

About Labor Day weekend, well part of the time I'll be hanging with my sil who is doing low carb like me, so that will be cool. I will prob be at my moms too, but I'll be okay. Her house is always packed with refined carbs: chips, bread, cereal, granola bars, candy, etc. I'm over there at least once a week doing laundry or watching my little brother, and I used to be really bad about eating junky over there. But this month I have been really good, and I always bring stuff with me just in case she doesn't have healthy stuff for me.

Gosh, all this talk about icecream makes me want some. For all you icecream lovers, a cool alternative you can make your own in a ziplock baggie. Take 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. and 1 TBS artificial sweetener or one packet of stevia and put into a sandwhich size ziplock baggie. Seal bag and shake lightly. Now take a gallon size ziplock baggie and fill with 3 cups of ice...to which you add 6 tablespoons of salt. Place the smaller bag inside the big one with ice and seal. Shake for 4-7 minutes depending on what consistency you like. 4 minutes of shaking gets a soft-serve type consistency, but I do 7 minutes because I like it thicker. GOod stuff!

I just made peach icee cream! We went to our local produce stand and they had an end of season(for them) sale. So I ended up with 3 bags of peaches and needed to do something with them. I peeled, cut them up and froze them. After they were frozen I put some in the blender with milk, and wa-la! fresh ice cream. It is so delicious!!! I think I'll try making vanilla with real vanilla bean, milk, and ice

I'm slacking off, weighing in and posting on a Friday! I'm still at 173.5, same as last week. I'm going to try to get to 170 or lower by the weekend of Sept. 24, when we've invited some friends we haven't seen in a while to come stay for the weekend - I want them to notice how much I've lost!

I've been pretty good with the cardio and weight lifting this week; fortunately the weather was a little cooler so I was able to take ds for long walks in the backpack.

Here's another way to make healthy "ice cream", from Cathe Olson, our mod of the Good Eating board: take equal amounts of frozen bananas and frozen fruit of your choice, put in food processor/blender, turn on, add just enough dairy milk or other milk to cause it to come together, add 1/2 to 1 tsp. vanilla. Yummy! DS loves this. It doesn't keep well, but you don't have to make very much at one time....and it's all fruit!
Another trick to try is to drink a glass of water and eat an apple when you get hungry between meals, or even before a meal. The water and fiber really help fill you up so you don't overindulge!

Amy, don't be depressed. Everyone has to start somewhere. I have worked hard for months to get down to the 175 level, and I'm happy to be there! You can be my buddy going down from here if you'd like. Question: what kinds of breads and breakfast cereals are you cutting out? I still eat bread and cereal, I just eat high-fiber whole grains. Ex. for bread I buy the German-style very dense whole grain rye and oat bread; for cereals I like Kashi cereals with low sugar, high protein, and high fiber. I also eat dairy, just very limited amounts of lowfat cheese and low-fat or skim milk. You can do it! What are you doing for exercise? That's made all the difference for me.
