I've been out for about 5 weeks because we put our computer in the shop a week before I went into labor. I was in agony waiting and not being able to keep up with you guys!
Anyway, I went into labor December 11th, a month ago today. I had early labor all day and started to get uncomfortable around 10 p.m. I planned to have my baby at the Birth center so we headed there about midnight. But after 12 hours of laboring, Isaac refused to move down. I was dilated to a 5 ro 6, and his station was -2! So, I was transported to the hospital at noon (since my water had been broken for 6 hours) to be induced. My midwife strongly recommended an epidural since I was exhausted and pitocin is a killer anyway. By the time I got to the hospital, my contractions were getting really painful and it was SO cold outside. So I tried to get through my contractions for the next couple of hours while my DH registered us and nurses buzzed around me. I talked to my Mom and husband and sisters between contractions.
Finally, I received my epidural and was put on pitocin. I labored as I slept for the next two hours, and a check showed that I had not progressed one iota since I had been admitted! Isaac was posterior and still at -2. So, that meant a C-section was in order. Within a short time, Isaac's heartrate dropped and I had three contractions really close together after I had been taken off of pitocin. I don't know why, but this concerned my doctor. So, I was rushed in for the cesarean, which wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be. Before I knew it, I heard his cry as my DH said "oh, wow." He had watched the birth! We had determined ahead of time that he would stay with Isaac until he was brought back to me, while my Mom met me in recovery for support. The hospital staff and my doctor were GREAT! I feel so blessed. They brought Isaac into recovery to nurse and to my room after that. We were out 2 days later and at home.
He's beautiful! My DH was wonderful during the labor and recovery. I'm still hurting some, but getting out and about every day. Isaac is a wonderful eater and sleeper, though it's rare that he goes more than 3 hours without eating.
I've enjoyed reading about all of you and your experiences. I'm sorry I've missed so much. God bless you all and your little ones and I look forward to being around again a little more! I'll try to get some pictures up soon.
