you mean the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris
Charlaine has another series that is about a woman who was hit by ligntening and now can communicate with people in graves---

pretty much a cross over between romance and contemporary vampire stuff- humor though out with just enough tension and mystery to keep you on edge-- a bit on the naive side compared to say Laurell K. Hamilton's books and certainly not as "historic" or violent as Anne Rice's, Most likely closer to the Undead series by MaryJanice Davidson- just not as fashion trendy

I liked the first three or four, but they seemed to lose a bit of their charm after that. Her other series (the one with "Grave" in the titles) is better at this point, imo.

I think of them as Laurell K. Hamilton-lite.
