Has anyone made the blanket buddy?

Okay, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing, but I'm not seeing how this is going to turn out. I'm knitting the Blanket Buddy http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/50722.html?noImages=0

and I'm on the head where I'm purling and slipping for several inches. But I don't get how I'm going to end up with a head that will need stuffing. I'm wondering if I did the previous section right where I had to knit into the front and back of each stitch. I knit into the stitch as normal and then before slipping the stitch off the needle I put the needle through the back part of the stitch (increasing) the stitch by one. It's how I've always done it but it doesn't make sense to me how I'm going to get a head of what I'm doing.

Will it become evident when I'm done?

Just to follow up....I checked my knitting book and I did do the increase (knit into front and back) correctly. I just don't see yet how the head will finish up to be stuffed. I'll continue on and see what happens.

But if anyone has insight....

I made this but its been about 2 years...if I remember correctly you knit the head flat and then it folds lengthwise and seam up the back...did that make sense? So that head will actually be half the width that it is when you are knitting it.

when you purl, you're "working" the stitches, the slipping is "resting" for the next row. that probably doesn't make any sense. It will work.

let's see if I can phrase that better.because you have double the stitches you need for the head; when you purl, you are working for that side of the head. the slipping will be the stitches for the other side of the head. then when you do the next row, the slipped stitches from before will be your purl stitches and the the old purls will be your new slipped stitches.

gosh I think I just confused myself, but I'm gonna leave it, maybe it does make sense.

You are working the front and the back of the head at the same time. In short, working a tube, but flat not in the round. This blanket on knitty uses that same technique http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall03/PATThoover.html

Also called double knit.. it is a fun technique!

Thank you! As I got further along, I realized that it is the back & front at the same time....like a tube. It is really cool how that happens! Very fun for sure! First time I've ever done this technique so I didn't quite understand what was happening (still not sure) but it works!

Lisa, glad it's working out! I'd love a pic when you're done!

I'll post a pic here and on Ravelry when it's done. Just one ear left to do! YAY! Then I'll be a pro for the second one I need to do.

Finished (nearly) my first blanket buddy! Thanks all for your assistance. I just need to stuff the head. I'm going to use a piece of quilt batting. Probably won't do up the face though. I like it plain. I'm part way through my second one.

I'm having trouble posting pics on Ravelry right now. I'm not sure why I'm getting errors but I'll keep trying.
