My 30 year old son has OCD, Help!

Long story short, he has OCD, in the worst form ever! He is also a germophobe. His obsession is his bowel movements. He is 5'10" and now weighs about 79 lbs. He refuses to get help, he lives with hubby and I, he cannot work, etc. it is a long story. If he eats something that causes his bm to be off, he freaks. Now he will eat only rice, or potatoes, chex mix, green beans, or smarties, oh he will eat one meal at midnight, so basically 1 meal every 24 hours. He started this behaviour about 2 years ago. So he is slowly starving himself to death, his health is horrible. He looks like a Holocaust survivor. Every thing we try to do for him falls on deaf ears. This is the hardest thing hubby and I have ever had to endure. We love him so much, and it hurts to see this genuis, he has a mensa IQ , do this to himself. How can you
help a person, who won't help himself?

At this point, he aught to be admitted - maybe just the ER so they can suggest either psych. and from there maybe a place that deals with eating disorders. As it is, he's very physically sick in that condition.

LVale, I am so sad for you. I am sorry to have no advice, but I have a young son (7 years old) who is a gifted child and has OCD tendencies. I think the link is at least somewhat common. Is your son unwilling to talk to a therapist? Has he ever been on medication?
