Is your huntleigh doppler REALLY quiet?

I just bought a barely used doppler off ebay. It works fine, but is super quiet. With the volume turned up all the way I have to hold the speaker to my ear to hear it well. The great thing is that it doesn't pick up lots of other noises or static, but I was wondering if it is normal for huntleighs to be soooooo quiet or if I got a dud.

Hmm, one mw I assist uses Huntleigh and the other uses Nicolet... I haven't really noticed the Huntleigh being more quiet but I'll try to really listen at the next birth.

I had a Sonotrax that I ended up exchanging for a Huntleigh because I couldn't hear it well even with the volume all the way up... but I haven't used my new one much.

eta: really... sounds like something must be wrong with the doppler because you shouldn't have to hold it up to your ear unless you are just having trouble picking up good clear FHT for whatever reason. I have a bit of a hearing problem and have only ever had trouble hearing with the Sonotrax.

Oh darn, that isn't what I wanted to hear! I was really excited getting this one for only $200, used only by 1 person who said they bought it brand new. It was a great price, but now I have no warranty since I didn't buy it new. Poop.

have you changed batteries just to be sure?
maybe a broken speaker?
is there a slot for headphones? maybe you can pin in another speaker

Mine's really loud. Try a new battery, then I don't know what. You should be able to hear it really well.

Yep, changed the battery and it didn't have any effect on it at all. I will try it with headphones and see if it works better. I guess I should start searching for where I can get it serviced to see if it is something that can be fixed or if I just need to buy a new one.

We only use lithium batteries in our dopplers. But I've never been pleased with Huntleighs, as parts seem to fall off eventually. Actually, I have yet to find a doppler I really love, and I've been through most brands.

The Huntleigh that we use is nice and loud, great sound. However, I had the opportunity to use a different midwife''s Huntleigh, and I could barely hear at all, the volume was so low!

So, maybe it just depends on the style or how old it is??

We only use Huntleighs in our clinic and have about a dozen of them. They all work the same and are too loud for regular usage at full volume. Though if I am ever ascultating at a concert, I am covered!
