Mamas, I am wanting to explain to my dd that punching is hitting, but she claims hitting is open hand and punching is closed fist. Any advice so I can get through to her quickly.

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

Maybe explain it a different way. Kicking is not hitting, but it hurts. Ask your DD if it is ok to kick someone because it is not hitting. Would she like it if someone punched her, etc.

I was going to suggest something similar - emphasize the effect instead of the specific action. "That hurts," and discussing the importance of not hurting other people, seems more likely to be successful than getting bogged down in a semantic debate. Good luck!

We also focus on "no hurting" - because it applies to all sorts of things, including both physical and emotional.
