Putting together some favourite tunes for birth....

Hi mamas!
I'm compiling a disc of music to listen to during my delivery. The last time I delivered, I had Celine Dion's Miracle CD playing in the background... it was soooo nice! I wanted a variety of singers this time and wondered what favourite, relaxing tunes you all would suggest. It would be nice if the the theme of the songs was about babies/children but not really necessary.
Ideas anyone?

My friend burned some Jack Johnson cds for me and I have some Nora Jones. I love Bob Marley! Its good for hip movement and swaying
Angela

Oh yeah and she also burned a U2 cd that I really like.

I loaded some more stuff on my iPod just the other day. One thing I'm going to try is this long song (45 mins or so) called 'Jesus Blood' by Gavin Bryars. I'm not religious, it uses a clip he had of this old homeless guy singing and it's looped over and over with all this other instrumental work sliding in and out of it (plus some Tom Waits!). It's incredibly hypnotic and peaceful so I think it might work well.

I learned in my previous births that my usual stable of emotional girly music (Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Ani D.) doesn't seem to work well for me during labor. I just end up bawling. I'm going to try the Joshua Tree U2 album since it's been in my mind lately and I have a good bit of Tom Waits and Ben Folds on there.

I still think the suggestion of Salt-N-Peppa's Push It is hysterical and that some Rage Against the Machine might be appropriate for a hospital birth where one ends up dealing with an antagonistic nurse/dr.

Low! They have a song I think I am going to love for this called "In Metal." It's all very mellow and peaceful.

I will be back with a list of artists tomorrow. Still working on the rest of the mix.

It is so funny this thread was made. I have had "make labor/baby CD" on my list of things to do for months. I was unpacking/organizing today and ran across my CD's so I have been ripping songs to my laptop and am working on compiling a list of music for the CD. I will update with my list when I finish...but one song that HAS to be on there is "One love" by bob marley.

The CD will atleast be nice to listen to in early labor if anything. I do find myself wanting to cry listening to songs like "forever young" by bob dylan tho.

Another "funny to see this thread!" I just finished making my CDs today- one of fast, energetic music and another of slower, moody type music. I'd love to pick up a CD of nature sounds, too, if I can find one for cheap enough. The birth center has a little bit of land around it, if I want to walk outside, but there is SO much traffic, I don't think I'll feel restful. And we live on 100 acres here at our job, BUT it would be hard to walk around outside without running into our 10 boys, someone else's kids or numerous staff members . . . and labor just seems to private to me to share like that. Soooooo, I think maybe a nature CD might be nice to have on hand if I'm craving that.

I don't have any suggestions for you but hope you find the right fit for your birth!

i was going to say jack johnson, too. i was sort of hoping this baby would hold out until his new cd came in february, but that would put me past 42 weeks, i think, lol.

i have all of his cd's in a playlist ready for the birth. he's dreamy.

And of course, my Hypnobabies tracks.

Thanks everyone! I knew you'd be the people to ask! This is wonderful...

I have a mix of Jack Johnson, DMB, and some others. JJ is one of our favorites (see my location ).
I'm not finished working on it, but it's hard to know what I will want to listen to at the time, if anything. With my dd I really preferred the quiet.

I didn't want music with my DD but I think this time around I might like reggae and other simple rhythmic music for labor.

I have a water drums song which is amazing to me and this weekend I found another song I purchased that was so calming.

If you want to look up on Itunes the Water drums one is Union Jack Water Drums and the other song which I had to purchase through Amazon since Itunes wouldn't let me purchase the single song Diva Prayer by Gisele Divina I found another singer whos voice I fell in love with but her stuff wasn't on Itunes or Amazon
