This post is going to completely give away my identity however I am too proud not to share. Also, my goal is to help get the policy changed in every province. If you know someone who is going through the something similiar feel free to PM me.

Congratulations to you and your whole family! DP and I (I'm the bio-mom) are both listed on DS' birth certificate, and it just feels so "right." Glad to see that moms in NL now have the same rights.

Way to go! Congratulations on your beautiful family and on your success.

Congratulations. The laws in our State are going to be changed sometime this year which means that my DP will be listed on our future child's birth certificate. It's such a big step and so important.

You have a lovely family.

Awesome!!! What a beautiful bunch you all are!! If I may ask what are the specific benefits of being listed on the birth certificate? Does it automatically give you legal rights as well?

Scalpel: before this change I would have to adopt my child before I would be a legal parent. I would not have been able to agree to medical treatment, sign and other documents that needed a parents signature like a MCP, if something happened to Theresa technically I could be made to fight for legal custody of River. Basically before this change I was nothing more than a free live-in baby-sitter.

Now I am no different than a biological father. I have all the rights that they would.

Congrats on your beautiful little River and on your great work on making change in Newfoundland & Labrador. Dw had to adopt dd1 and it was a frustrating, expensive experience. We are so grateful to the moms here in Ontario who challenged this in court & now I can be written onto dc2's birth certificate in March. What a wonderful gift for your daughter & for other moms in your province!!

Congratulations Starlight!! what a beautiful babe!

I am so grateful for you and all the people out there making the world a better place. I am in Nova Scotia and just a few months ago two new mamas challenged the legislation here and won! I LOVE it!
