Question about fertility indicator device

I have the ovu-tec, which is one of those little microscopes that you put saliva on and then check for ferning which would indicate fertility. I'm using that in conjunction with watching for fertile mucus. I don't want to become pregnant since I already have my hands full with a toddler and an infant. I am confused about what is going on and hope someone here might have some insight into it.

Two months after giving birth, my period returned. It has come every month for the last four months now (despite exclusively breastfeeding ). However, I haven't had any ferning at all on my ovu-tec this whole time. I am wondering how I could have a period if I'm not fertile. Any thoughts on this?

Sounds like you are having anovulatory cycles because of breastfeeding. Now don't freak out if you google it because there is all sorts of info about how anvoulatory cycles are a sign of infertility - but not in this case. It is just a step towards your full fertility returning.
