Hi hadassah,

although I am a first time mom i ended up getting the graco safeseat step 1 infant seat because it has a higher weight allowance than other infant seats. It goes up to a year old and 30 Lbs so I figured it would last longer. Picking out all this gear can be so overwhelming sometimes!

I too emailed the administrators this morning when I thought I was banned. It was when I couldn't get on this morning I realized how much I have come to rely on this community

I am now 38 weeks and I have dropped, just a little bit, but it is progress which I am excited to see. Yay!!! KJ will hopefully come by the time here EDD arrives (1/29)

We also got the Graco Safeseat (scored an awesome deal on craigslist---new, sealed in box, never used, for $60!) for this one. Who knows how big this baby will be, but my son didn't fit safely into a convertible for a few months. The lowest harness slots were just too low. He's a little munch to this day, and would have JUST outgrown the height limits of the Graco Safeseat at around 2.5 years old!! Not that I would have/could have kept him in there that long, but it shows that it will last longer than many of the other infant seats on the market.

I only used the bucket in a restaurant twice when DS was a baby, and NEVER in a store, but it was nice to be able to buckle him in the seat when the seat was WARM inside the house. I imagine this will be even more convenient now that I have a toddler. Also, if I manage to get a child that doesn't DETEST the car this time, it'll be nice to bring the baby into the house sleeping in the bucket in order to snag a few minutes alone with DS, I imagine.

I'm still gestating over here. We actually have snow in our yard right now, which is odd for the Seattle area. It's lovely.....the perfect night to give birth, as long as my mw can get here!

i haven't been in on the whole carseat suggestions, just saw this last page, but wanted to add some thoughts. we chose the graco snugride in emerson pattern. this was because it scrored the best on www.healthycar.org for having the least amount of chemicals that could offgass or leach onto babies skin. we learned from the website that each specific pattern for a particular model is different. i didn't think that the emerson pattern was that pretty but we got it because i felt better knowing it didn't contain as many chemicals in the fabric. you wouldn't think that they would treat car seats with lead and arsenic and stuff but it seems that they do. some of the graco safeseats they tested were, fusion, roxy, heirloom, french roast, and pierson. obviously one problem with this site is that they don't test every single carseat in the world. i just thought you might want to check it out.

Sorry to reply on yesterday's thread, but I wanted to chime in that that seems like a great website---I went there myself before buying our seat, and found that the particular one we got was GREAT except for the sunshade. I just took this part off, and if I decide I need it I'll just make a new cover for the plastic bits. I'm guessing they probably felt the need to saturate the sunshade with so much CRAP because it is a loose piece of fabric....??

yes we really paid attention to that website when we bought the new babies car seat....but unfortunately when we bought ds's new carseat the only ones available at the time in the type that we wanted either weren't tested or test around 2.5 on the scale of 5 being the worst.
