winter newborns...what do they wear??

i finally have it through my thick skull that my babes are NOT going to be the same season. Ds was born end of April and this babe is due end of January.

So, I know about getting one of those little cover thingys to cover the carseat..a.re those a universal fit?

I know lots of hats and such to keep babe's head warm...but what about everyone else??

We aren't finding out sex but I keep having dreams that the tech slips up and tells us...so maybe we will know

We prettymuch wore footy sleepers, with lots of blankets wrapped around the car seat outside!

We did pretty much footy sleepers and onsies. We even had some long sleeve and thermal onsies (I love onsies :LOL).
My last two absolutely wouldn't keep a hat on thier head. we had a light snowsuit (thin fleece) and a carseat cozy for going outside. Skip the mittens. We prefer to layer light blankes on rather than using heavy ones. we had two reciveving blackets made with two one yard peices of flannel sewn together and on quilt. That was plenty. She had few going out outfits but otherwise even her coming home outfit was a fleece footy sleeper.

We never used the carseat cover as we had a Britax Roundabout. We used fleece dog booties for hands & feet. A polar fleece snowsuit w/hood to go over his HA pilots cap. When We went strolling, I'd put him in a fleece baby sleeping bag. For walking, I put down booties on his feet that went up to his knees.

We went out everyday down to 0'.

well, i'll need some going out outfits...my dh is a minister so baby has to "pretty"....well....warm is more important to me!

I love onesies too and i can buy them unisex....I have some fleece bags left from ds and plenty of blankets!

Footie sleepers here too, I usually used the terry Carter's b/c they were thick, but not so thick that baby might get hot in the house(like baby would in fleece)

I really liked the terry sleepers, you didn't have to worry about keeping their socks on. I had a carseat covet that was elastic and fit on the carseat, and had a zipper to take the baby out, and it had a face opening with a flap I could close when taking baby to the car, the cover fit the carseat well, and probably would fit ant carrier style carseat b/c of the elastic, you never had to take it off, and did not have to worry about dropping blankets or the wind blowing the blankets off. It was also great at keeping strangers from touching baby. I loved the carseat cover, I usually buy it for a shower gift if its gonna be a winter baby.

I had terry sleepers for ds. I love the way a baby feels in them. Just cuddly enough to squeeze!!

Looks like I'll invest in some. We live in Newport News VA right now but it looks like we are moving to Bloomington IN maybe and it is much clder there in the winter!

Ds was born in Bloomington last year. Just happened to be cold like crazy last year!

I didn't have a carseat cover with dd, but was given one for ds & I LOVE that thing! Very convenient, very warm. But he did grow out of his sit & the cover Very Quickly. That was the only downside.

In addition to what everyone else said, I dressed ds in warm, fuzzy fleece outfits. It's really all about layers, so if you do overdress (and who hasn't ) you can strip the baby down easily.

Are you still in Bloomington? Where did you deliver? Did you have a mw?

I have tons of questions!!

PMing you now!

I had two winter babies. For nice outings I bought a few sleeper type one piece outfits that were fancier and just used those when out.

i had a november babe and then proceeded to endure what i think might be my coldest winter yet.

skip the mittens

buy a hanna anderson pilot cap -- the winter kind. they stay on rather well.

we had a car seat cover from lands end. As they say in minnesota "it was spendy" but it was worth every penny i spent on it. might be less so if you are someplace warmer than the tundra!

we regularly would dress dd in one of those footed outfits, but would use a t-shirt rather than a onesie under it because onesie + snaps on outfit = mad dad when changing baby.

we also had a fleece bunting for erin. it was huge for much of the winter, but we would layer up the clothes on the really cold days.

are you co sleeping? if not, maybe one of those little sleeping bag thingys for the baby to sleep in. -- has arm holes, but the legs are sewn together.

You mammas are great!!

there are plenty pf little things I can buy without knowing sex! We have some of the sleeper gowns from ds and i think one of the bags too which we never used.

I'm going to ship mittens they would drive me nuts too!

Buntings!!! (I had a beautiful red fleece "baby in a bag" thing...had a hood, arms but not legs. It also had a slot hole for the car seat belt at the bottom) For outdoor wear obviously. Indoors: terry footy jammies, long sleeve onsies, socks. Same stuff you would but a baby in in the summer if they are in AC.

I forgpt gowns. dd lived in gowns for the first few months unless we went out.

Gerber makes the best I have seen and thier hats and booties stay ojn surprising;y well. And they fit for a long time. I also really like the Joe Boxer brand gown but thier hat and booties were absolutely worthless (although stinking cute )
