non-plastic cups for kids?

Does anyone know of any non-plastic, non-breakable cups for children that aren't sippy cups? I'm looking for something that's bamboo or wood or even stainless steel, and don't care whether it's dishwasher safe. I'm so sick of using plastic and not knowing whether it's safe, especially with hot or acidic foods. Any advice?

We had the same concern, and bought some small thick glass cups for dd. Granted she's only 10mo so she hasn't used them without me holding it for her, but they seem really durable. They're just little old-fashioned juice cups, great for little hands.

We got ours at a thrift store for 50 cents apiece.

We use jelly jars (super cheap at the thrift store) and corelle mugs.

I need something, too. We had thick glass cups; we had Corelle. All broken. We have tile floors and I would like to be able to allow my older children to take their own things to the sink and carry their own dishes and drinks. I'm not sure what to buy now. I'd like something that could be used by any member of the family and that looks decent. It doesn't have to be fancy, but nice enough that I won't be upset to use it for company. On the other hand, anything has got to better than what we have now: one metal cup, one glass cup, and one ceramic mug. That's it!

I've come up with some ideas:
  • enamelware (beautiful cups at Mackenzie Child...)
  • stainless (Oneida makes one for kids)
  • thick juice glasses at local Bedbathbeyondwhatever stores
  • used sterling or silverplate baby cups (Ebay)
  • campware (REI or similar)
Hope that helps someone!

I managed to get a small stainless steel wine glass at a thrift store. It's a bit odd seeing a toddler drinking out of a wine glass, but it's the only thing that's survived so far.

We use the glass jelly jars here too. They are thick and heavy enough that they don't spill and if they drop them they don't break as easy.

The stainless steel wine glass sounds great! My 5-yo loves drinking out of our small, thick glass ones. They make her feel special.

We use the small quilted-design Ball jars. They are very strong and don't break easily.

Question about the enamelware - does it dent or chip? Does it need to be hand-washed?

It can dent or chip, but we've had ours for years, taken it camping and generally been quite rough with it and there have been no issues. I imagine lower quality stuff might damage easier. Don't ask me what kind I have it was years ago and there is no mark on them but I think we got them at MEC (mountin equipment co-op)

I've been putting ours through the dishwasher with no problems.

I bought a couple of the blue enamelware espresso size mugs at REI for my daughter- she loves them and they are just the right size for her 2 yo hands. I put them in the dishwasher (top rack) and they have held up great.

Stainless steel wine glasses and beer mugs

I found these stainless steel wine glasses at a local store. They work great for the older kids.

For the younger kids I recomend these
stainless steel beer mugs.

They are surprisingly lightweight and the handle on them works well for kids under 48 months. I've had them drop on the floor and clink together, they are really durable. I haven't seen any dints on them so far and I've been using them for 8 months. The high walls on the beer mug allow you an extra couply of valuable seconds when spills happen

Happy mother-child dining :
