Violet Saoirse was born January 9, 2008, at 7:48pm, weighing 10 pounds and 13 ounces.

My birth was nothing like I had hoped/dreamed/planned, and the past week has been, in some ways, hell, but we are so happy she is here, healthy, and ours!

I was in labor for almost two days, the second day my ctx were 2 min apart for 10 or 12 hrs. I ended up with every intervention I had fought against from my providers, and put under observation for pre-e for 2 days afterward. I didn't even get to see Violet until the day after the (c/s) birth.

I'll try to write more about it soon, once I have fully processed what happened.

(Oh, and my lovey was born the night before - at 8:30pm - and weighed 10lbs 13oz too!)

OH! And it totally didn't process with me immediately - but I adore the name Saoirse! It was actually on my short list, (even for my boy) - you have such great taste.

Yes, I was disappointed, but in the end I know I did the best I could for me and my little gal. My health was in jeopardy, and since we knew when my water broke that there was mec in it, I knew there was a good chance she was in danger as well. After laboring for 36 hours and still only being dilated to 3, I kind of lost my nerve. When I heard her weight, I started to wonder if I could have even pulled it off.
I did manage to switch to a different hospital, which turned out to be a good thing since Violet needed to go to ICU, where we still are today. We go home tomorrow. Yay!

Katfka: are you my psychic twin? Looks like you're only a state away, our babies weigh the same, we like the same names, and wasn't your due date 12/22 as well? Eery. I haven't had a chance to hunt down your birth story yet, but it sounds like you had the birth you were looking for.

I'm pretty sure some cosmic wackiness is going on. Yes, I was 'due' on the 22nd. When we're in MN next, we'll have to get our big healthy chubballs together. Maybe they'll fall in love and make more perfect cozy-in-the-womb 43wk babies together.

Oh, and I haven't written a birth story yet - I suppose I better get on that.

I too ended up w/ a c/s and a huge baby so I understand what you are going through. My little guy is almost 2 weeks old and I'm still attempting to process his birth. Be gentle with yourself and enjoy your baby snuggles.

I'm sorry to hear about your not-so-pleasant birth experience. I think you did an amazing job though. Your mama intuition said "ok, this isn't going how I planned and I think I need some help" I think that's really amazing of you to listen to it. And 10 lbs 13 oz. WOW!!! Congrats!!
