How do you do FAM if you dont have...

any fertile quality CM? My CM ranges from sticky/dry to creamy and back (and forth) alternating days. I never know if/when I ovulate until its done due to the temp changes. I have no other sign of ovulation at all.

w/o decent quality CM is FAM (for ttc and tta) out?

I didn't have CM after stopping bc pills but kept charting my temp. I was lucky that I got ovulation pains. I found I tended to O within 5 days of the O pains and it was pretty consistent. I think it depends on how regular your cycles are. I used it for TTC.

Even if it doesn't help in determining when to TTC for you, I recommend it as an "in case" because it really helps with dating a pregnancy... especially if you are not a good candidate for LMP dating (don't have 28 day cycles).

My cycles are all over the map which is even more fustrating. One cycle can be 34 days, the next can be 50. My LP varies between 10 and 19 days too. I no longer have O pain which makes it even worse. If I at least had that, it would be a little easier.

Are you checking your cm directly at the cervix?? That's made a big difference for me. The hight and openness of your cervix can also shed great light on what fertile cm looks like for you.

Have you ever looked in to your thyroid levels? Your cycles sound much like mine and it's caused by an underactive thyroid (though I still get ewcm).

If you're TTC, you can also look into using actual egg whites to simulate ewcm if you know when you need to use them (i.e. can figure out when ovulation is occuring).

eirual - I do check at the cervix or else I wouldn’t get ANY CM at all.

I have low thyroid function and getting that rechecked today and that could be my problem (along with PCOS).

My biggest problem is not knowing when to use eggwhites or Preseed.

I think it would make FAM for TTC really hard but it wouldn't make FAM for TTA that hard. If you were doing FAM for TTA what you'd do is your safe times would be three days after your temp shift until your period is over. Then you'd abstain or use protection for the time from the end of your period until 3 days past O. You'd have a shorter time that you'd be "safe" than if you could gauge fertility based on CM, but still, you could do it.

As far as TTC, that would be more difficult. You'd have to get really good at checking cervical height, opening... I'm not so good at that. But some people are!

Thanks! For TTA mean abstaining for weeks at a time before I O (if I O). For TTC, you're right, it’s much harder even. Regular intercourse isn’t always an option, especially if it can take weeks and weeks just to O. I was just curious. I wish TTA was an “issue” for me, LOL.
