Lactivism at Hot Topic - Page 3

I received a reply back from "Ed" - In short he thanked me...thought the letter was sweet... and was happy he was able to right the wrong of this wonderful mother and great customer.

It was a nice reply letter and did not seem at all copied everyone.....

BTW I plugged activism shirts for his store LOL

wowowow! I'm so sorry you had to deal with that.
I have had WONDERFUL experiences nursing at Torrid (which is owned by Hot Topic). I asked to nurse in a dressing room there *by my choice* (LO is easily distracted) and the girls that worked there happily cleared one out for me and chatted with me through the door the whole time.

I can assure you that it wasn't. I've been shown many of his replies and every one of them is different. He's really hand-typing them all out. It says a lot about him!

On nursing in the dressing room--I couldn't even get an employee to let me back there to try on a shirt! No one would help me, so I went back and tried one on and there was nowhere to sit, it was dark and someone else needed it, so I didn't get a chance to nurse there, either. Plus, I was afraid of getting in trouble for being back there without an employee pretty dumb in hindsight!

Xakana, I'm SO glad you got it resolved! I'm very impressed with him. (BTW, it's MamaCeleste, I haven't changed my name over here : )

Are you planning on going back?

It's nice to hear the higher ups are on the right page, shame about the staff. Hopefully they will get some education. It really just boggles the mind - a quiet happy baby is far less of a bother than a tiny tiny bit of skin!

BTW, I recognise you Xak from our 'due in October' board (jgreys on BF). Hi and hope you're well.

Hi! This is Emily from LLL. I"m SO glad you got a good outcome though I admit I was kind of looking forward to organizing a nurse in! lol

here is what I sent

Dear Mr. Ed Gusman,

Recently I learned of a situation at one of your stores. A mother nursing her toddler was thrown out and harassed by two of your employees. She was horribly humiliated and felt completely degraded by the incident. These two employees were completely ignorant; not only of the law, but of compassion. I was appalled at their lack of customer service skills. Nursing mothers frequently band together to support one another when one of us are treated poorly by an establishment. We were getting ready, and then… there was you.

This mother recounted to us how you quickly handled this situation. She told us how kind you were, and that you truly seemed concerned that she was harassed, let alone by one of your employees in your stores. She told us how you promised to ensure your employees are trained regarding the federal and state breastfeeding laws. She related that you would also teach them how to handle complaining customers in the future. I am so proud of the way you have handled this, and am relieved to hear of the course of action you have promised to take. I hope you will also educate your employees about nursing, so that they may see it is not an indecent act but a natural, normal everyday occurrence all over the world.

Thankfully, I can continue to shop at Hot Topic as a result of your actions on this case.

Sincerely,

I sent Ed a nice letter thanking him for his actions towards the OP and he sent me an even nicer one back in response. I'm glad to hear that others have had a positive experience with this guy. It says a lot about him that he would take the time to write us all individually.

I too got a very kind personal response. I'm so impressed.
