Making kombucha without a scoby

I've had a hard time finding a kombucha scoby - somewhere I read that you can make it with only an inoculant from commercial kombucha, but I can't find a recipe. Can anyone help? Or send me a scoby?

Sorry if this has been hashed already - the search didn't turn anything up.

buy a bottle of raw kombucha from the store and open it and let it sit out until it grows a scoby and then use the scoby and the 'bucha to start your batch.

I use 2 tea bags and 1/3 cup of sugar per quart of water. Make for sure it is cool before adding the scoby and 'bucha.

Thank you! I've been wondering about this, too.

Perfect timing for me. I'm looking to start my own kombucha brew and only have a $3.50 bottle of organic kombucha from the store. I think tomorrow I'll start the process.

If it doesn't work out you can always get a scoby mailed to you. Just check out the scoby sticky at the top of this forum. Many of us are happy to mail starter cultures (kombucha and kefir) to anyone who wants them
