Hi! I just took this workshop at the suggestion of someone here on MDC and I thought you all might be interested. It is a really Awesome workshop (for those of you who live in the Vancouver/Portland area! I thought that this workshop tied really well into TF eating! I LOVED IT! Here are the specs if you are interested at all:
As some of you know I have recently started teaching Sustainable living on a Budget workshops out of my home. The focus of the first workshop is on sustainable living and how to do it on a budget. I talk about saving money on groceries but still buying local and organic, eliminating the need to go to the grocery store, simplifying your cupboards, and purifying your home by eliminating plastics and other petroleum and chemical based products and SO much more. We will "walk" through each room of a typical home and talk about what is found in them that is traditionally not made "green" and how to replace these items. You will be surprised how many items are petroleum based or sprayed with chemicals. You will walk away with a notebook full of practical information and the knowledge to implement it in your life. You will see a difference in your grocery bill right away.
More details on what you will learn:
-How to save money on groceries and all household items, big and small
-Eliminate trips to the grocery store
-Shopping and cooking in season
-Learning what you can make from scratch to save you $ and eat very healthy
-Buying whole foods/eliminating processed foods
-Eliminating plastics (how to replace them with other materials)
-Alternative shopping
-The importance of daily and weekly rhythms
-NOT being a consumer
-Involving your children of any age in these daily tasks and much more..
The next Introduction workshop is Jan 16th, 7pm at my house.
I will also be doing a Homemade dairy product workshop Jan 24th 7pm (this is full, I will schedule another one soon), this will be hands on. We will be making butter, creme fraiche, yogurt, yogurt cheese and kefir. You will be able to taste and take some home with you. I do require that people take the Intro workshop first before the specialized workshops because you will have a better idea of what the workshops are all about, and that way everyone is on the "same page", so to speak.
My next whole Grains and Meal Planning workshop is Feb 1 at 7pm in SW Portland. We will be talking about 7 different whole grains and how to incorporate them into your daily meals as well as tasting them. We will also be meal planning, so bring your calendars!
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me. Also, for people that take the Intro workshop I have started a google group so everyone can share information and ask questions, on the group I also post any new articles or resources that I come across.
Please feel free to forward this email on to others that may be interested.
Monique Dupre
PS. I am soon going to have a website where people can reserve their spot and pay. Should be done in Jan. I am so excited!
