I decided to buy an arms reach for my upcoming DC and am trying to determine whether to buy the original (larger) size or the mini size.
Part of my concern is that the baby will outgrow the arms reach... but not becuase of weight. Rather they will learn to sit, flip, etc. and that will make it too dangerous.
What do you recommend? What age could your DC sleep in the original or mini until? Why did you move them out? Did it have to do with weight, motor skills (like being able to sit up or flip)?
I have the mini- and although my DD ended up just sleeping in bed w/ us, it was a good size... I used the co- sleeper to store books, nursing pillow, etc. and DD would hang out in there while I changed the sheets on our bed(almost every day!) By the time she was 7 months she was able to pull herself up on the sides and I packed it up and put our mattress on the floor.
We used the mini for the 1st 3 mos. at night (then into bed with us) and then just for naps until ds was about 17 lb. At 17lb the mini started sagging...
I have the mini, and even tho ds rarely sleeps in it, i love it. it is a great size to roll around the house so you have a safe place to put the baby when you need to. my ds is 4 months and we put the low side up a few weeks ago (he started hanging his legs out), but i think he will get a couple more months in it still.
I have an orignal sized co-sleeper. Which is good b/c my baby is a big-un (22lbs 5oz and 5 months old!) He slept in it a lot in the beginning, but now he flips like a fish, so it has turned into a bed rail/ storage space.
Also once he started sleeping in our bed more he didn't tolerate the thin mattress anymore. We are currently in the market (the craigslist market) for a crib to sidecar, althoug i already have trouble getting in and out of bed
We got an Orignial size for DD2. I have a friend who still has her two year old in one because she hasn't outgrown it length wise yet (this was why we chose the origninal over the mini). Yes once they are sitting up and climbing they could fall out if left unattended but they could fall out of the bed if left unatteded too. I have not had any problem with the mattress sagging. The Original has really strong bars under the mattress that can even hold my 38 lb 4 year old.
We used the mini for a few weeks until I decided it was easier to just lay him beside me in bed but we still used it for naps until about 5 months old. After that it was the perfect size to store extra blankets boppy pillow etc.
