.....that is how much I just spent on a bag of grapes at Safeway....: If I wasn't pregnant and craving grapes there is no way. So much for trying to be frugal.

I totally hear you! My DS LOVES grapes and has a cold right now, so since he won't eat anything else I went to get some and they were $9, yikes!

yeah, dh wanted some last time we went shopping, and we spent like $9

last friday, 3.99 per pound here and I bought $8 and some cents worth....

I'm not frugal when it comes to the kids asking for fresh fruit and veggies, if they ask can I have ____ then it goes into the buggy, well I do have a couple of if's... if I know it's something they have had before and will eat, they can have it, when they ask for something new or something I doubt they will eat I will look at price and either buy a small amount or redirect if it's way outrageous in price or if it's somethng that is way past it's prime.

quit thinking that the grapes were for you.... they were for the babe growing in your belly! now if it's something completly unhealthy then you can look at it like it was for just you!

Mmmmm . . . grapes . . . .

I've also been there, done that.
Did you at least savour every last grape and enjoy eating them?

That's the important thing!

: I am in Maine and my dd who is 2 loves grapes and eats them everyday so we are averaging $9 a week in grapes. I am broke these days but when it comes to the fruits and veggies I make a way to get those.

they are pretty good, but are not going to last very long. I looked at my bill and I paid $5.99/lbs. No wonder it didn't seem like much once I washed them. I'll have to look at the sign next time instead of being guided by a craving.

Is there a grape shortage or something? I don't remember it being like this last winter (I'm in MB). Safeway is the ONLY store in town that carries red grapes -- my one HUGE craving -- and they're $5.99/lb!!! Sobey's and Superstore have NO grapes at all.

I have no idea, but it is the same here. Over the last week or so I looked at superstore, co-op, sobeys and costco and no grapes. Safeway had about 10 bags of red grapes and a few green. I think that is part of the reason I was willing to pay so much, I had been searching for them for so long I couldn't possibly leave without buying them at this point. Why couldn't I crave oranges, they had a 20 lb box for $10....Ah well.

I'm not much better. I always buy grapes on sale so they don't cost too much. But I don't like eating grapes. I don't like fruits in general and my kids are like me. DH is too lazy to help himself. I generally buy fruits for my grandma to eat and she always says she doesn't have the time to eat them. They usually sit there and get rotten. Sometimes I wonder why I feel obligated to put fruits in my shopping basket at all.

Get frozen fruit and make smoothies when people are feeling fruity.

I couldn't stop thinking about this thread as I paid $11.08 ($4.99 lb) for grapes today. We never buy grapes this time of year but my older DD is really sick and the ONLY thing she asked for was grapes. I had to oblige!

I had to come back to this thread too.

We went over to a friend's house last night for dinner and I asked, "What can we bring?"

I think you all know what's coming.

Yup. $14 in grapes. I was so happy my friend actually *asked* for something though! And the kids loved them--- I wouldn't have bought them otherwise, lol.

Of course grapes are expensive in the winter. They traveled halfway around the world to reach you.

I recommend reading the Barbara Kingsolver book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. It will get you thinking about how you eat.

Just had to come back to this thread . . . yesterday, I found red grapes at Superstore for $1.88/lb. And they are excellent grapes! I almost hugged the produce boy when I saw him stocking them!

I've been avoiding this thread because our food is through the roof. We spend over $25 a day on fruit and veggies. My guys are little, but big eaters. It's freaking me out.
