Jordan James Michael Booker blessed the world with his presence at 12:33pm on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 after a very fast, relatively easy labor.
I had been having pretty regular contractions on Sunday night and started seriously thinking that I might not need to be induced after all. Woke up Monday morning to some bloody show, but the contractions were pretty much gone. Got my hair and make-up done all pretty and got everything ready. Then went to lunch, bought a nursing bra, and headed to my dr appt. He checked me and said 1cm to be generous, but I really wasn't even that...plus 50% effaced and baby had dropped some...but not anything that would indicate he was in a big hurry to come out...so induction still on! So we headed to the airport to pick up DH, then went for one last meal out!
We got to the hospital just before 9pm and got settled in the room. Around 1030, the nurse came in and checked me (still not even 1cm), then inserted the little pill to thin my cervix, dilate me, etc. She told me she'd be giving me a second dose at 230am. I didn't start contractions, but still didn't sleep well because everytime I rolled over they had to come adjust the monitors...quite annoying. They had given me 2 Ambien, then like an hour later gave me 2 more, so I was OUT!! At 230 I am awakened by them asking me to turn on my right side, then my left, then my right again, then flat on my back. I noticed that there were about 5 or 6 nurses in my room...which concerned me a little. Then she puts an oxygen mask on me and gives me a shot to stop my contractions. Apparently the baby was not reacting well to the drugs and his heartrate was dropping. They got in contact with my dr, who gave orders and said that if it happened again he'd be doing a c-section. That got me a little concerned, but stressing over it wouldn't do any good. Needless to say, I didn't get the second dose of Citatec.
At 630, my Dr came in and checked me...2cm. Great. This is going to be a LONG day! They started the Pitocin, and he talked about breaking my water, but said to wait until I had the Nubane or Epidural first. I had already told them I didn't want the epidural unless I specifically requested it...they weren't even allowed to offer it to me! This way I couldn't be coaxed into it. Once the Pitocin started, so did the contractions, so I asked for the Nubane. If you've never had it, it is NOT pain relief, but it takes the edge off. Instead of the contractions just settling down and starting again, I was able to relax in between. And I did! I slept through most of my labor lol...my Dr calls Nubane a Margarita, and that's exactly what it was, I felt like I was drugged! It was great haha So we called my MIL and told her that they should get there since he was already discussing breaking my water. That was at about 715...by the time she got there I was 7cm! My MIL told my SIL that it would probably be early afternoon. They gave me another dose of the Nubane and I kept telling them I felt like I had to pee...turns out it was just baby's head. As soon as I relaxed, my water broke on its own. She checked me...9cm! It was about 1100 then, so my MIL had to call my SIL back and say "you need to get here now or you'll miss it! lol" The VERY NEXT contraction after she said 9cm, I was like "I need to push...NOW!" She checked me...sure enough, 10cm. She had me push til he crowned (about 3 or 4 contractions with 3 pushes each). As soon as he crowned she told me not to push any more, they were calling my Dr. She told me he'd be there in 15 min, I just needed to breath through the contractions til then. That was the absolute WORST part of the whole labor! He was crowning, and then she wanted me to hold him in! Well, 40 min later, the dr still wasn't there. I guess he thought he had a LOT more time. He got there, FINALLY, and I pushed 4 times...one full contraction, and then one push on the next one. I seriously only pushed for about 5 minutes. I didn't even watch, so when I turned to see him I was shocked...I was expecting a VERY large baby. I was like "he's so tiny!"
The phone rang literally as he was coming out...it was my mom!! Talk about perfect timing...she got to hear his first cry, and she said it was the next best thing to actually being there...thats what I call maternal instinct!!
So after only 6 hours of actual labor, and 4 pushes that counted, (and NO EPIDURAL!!!!) my son was born weighing 7lbs 0oz, 20.25in long, 14.25in head, 12.5in chest. He has brown hair and DEEP blue eyes....for now. Hopefully they stay that way. He is beyond perfect (I know all mommies think that, but it's really true for me lol) He looks like Aidan a lot of the time, but sometimes I look at him and see my dad, so I think he got the greatest of both of us! He has a perfectly round head. He is nursing beautifully and is just so cute I could eat him up!!!
My only concern about the Nubane was if the baby would act sedated too...I mean, if it knocked ME out like that, imagine the affect on his little body. Well, no worries!! He was VERY alert, latched right on, etc....it had zero effect (which is what they told me, but I tend to want to figure things out for myself
