Does your midwife do breech births?
Hi!

I was just coming to check if there was a thread like this, or to start one. I am 34 weeks and yesterday confirmed that this babe is breech, kind of diagonal actually with a head sticking out my side.
I have been sure that this is where the baby is, but my midwife last visit said she thought the head was probably down (I think she was feeling the bum actually). I wanted to see for sure and did a scan, my first ultrasound of the whole pregnancy (the tech was horrified I hadn't had one yet, lol!).

So now that I know the position needs to shift, I'm starting with exercises and breech tilts and things this week. Other things I might try could include the Webster technique and accupuncture and moxa... hoping I will be able to tell when the baby has flipped, though, so I can stop doing turning things!

This is my second and dd was head down early on, so I hadn't even really been thinking about this possiblity. The midwives at my birth center don't do breech births.

My baby is in a similar position, head at the ribs on my right side and diagnonal. No one in the area delivers breech vaginally. Can you explain what a Breech tilt is? and maybe any other exercises you are doing? My mw said that if at 37 week u/s still breech, we can talk acupuncture.

So we will see.

The Mothering articles & experts sections have a few good resources on breech babies, but here's one that briefly explains the breech tilt: http://www.mothering.com/articles/bo...eech-tilt.html

Just want to offer a cyber-hug.

Not just one, but BOTH my kids turned breech at 32 weeks and never looked back. That doesn't mean that the same thing is your destiny -- do everything you can to get them to turn. In the end, it will all work out.

Sorry.

Mine was breech at 36 weeks and by this week, week 37, he turned. I didn't do anything to make him turn either. I was still researching the options. There are some great suggestion on the internet. I found a list-not sure what website-but it was 17 ways to turn a breech baby. He turned himself so hopefully yours will too.

Now I'm hoping he stays that way so I'm being extra careful about my posture.

Good Luck

My little one isn't breech, I think is maybe posterior-head down. But I am only 34 weeks so we have some time for that to change.

I wanted to offer another suggestion to use in addition to what has already been mentioned. It is the power of your mind. Focus your mind on the baby being head down in your womb. Don't think about the baby turning, visualize the end result, the baby head down and in good position. I know our little ones are aware of our thoughts, for example, my little one will stop moving sometimes if I simply shift my eyes to watch my belly dance. Or if I am thinking about telling DP to watch or lay a hand on my belly, the movement stops. As soon as my focus is on something else, the movement resumes. Silly little one.

For best results don't focus on the babys current position, only the position that you want him/her in. Good luck spinning those babies in to position using your body and mind.

Check out spinningbabies.com!

At my 34-week appt on Tuesday, the MW told me she's breech.

So this is my game plan: Everyday, I'm doing 3 breech pelvic tilts for at least 10 minutes, I'm going for a 30-minute walk, I'm sitting on the birth ball instead of regular chairs/couches when possible, I'm trying not to cross my legs when I sit, and I'm trying not to lean back when sitting with my feet up. I'm also going to yoga this weekend and possibly during the week too. I have a Webster technique appt with my chiro next Wednesday, then I think I'll go back to the birth center and get the MW to check the position again to determine whether to step it up to acupuncture. (And swimming/doing headstands in water--I'm not a swimmer so I'm leaving that as the last option!) I think DH and I might try the flashlight technique this weekend too--get your DP to shine a flashlight up your yoni and call out to the baby!

DD was breech and I had an ECV at 37+ weeks to turn her. It was excrutiating, at that time I was very uneducated about the possibility of birthing breech or other spinning methods becuase I knew my own mother had a c-section with me for breech presentation. (I was so naive)

This time around, baby was also breech with his feet pushing down on either side. He ended up moving to vertex about a week ago. Here is what I did:

Day one, mw did a cranial-sacral adjustment
Days 2-6, I did moxa treatments for 15 minutes on each side and knee-chest position.
Day 7, chiropractor did Webster technique
Day 8, baby turned! Confirmed via quick u/s.
(also pepper in a lot of prayer above!)
(also I sat on my headphones at work instead of putting them on my ears and I am now staying away from them completely)

I know I was lucky and I am continuing to see the chiro once weekly to keep things open and loose down below as well as doing pelvic tilts to encourage engagement. So far baby is still vertex.

Good luck to all mama's with breech babies, and don't discount the possibility of delivering breech. I would not personally be comfortable delivering a footling breech but I would a frank or complete.

Look at all your options and feel free to pm me for more info.

Hey Lincap, thanks for starting this thread! Unfortunately I will have to count myself as a member. It will be interesting to see how things turn out for everybody...

I am over 37 weeks and my babe is transverse breech, where she's been hanging out for months! She's been changing her position like crazy for the last several weeks, which is surprising because they're supposed to be moving around less at this point. However, she has never moved into a head-down position and always ends up transverse again.

I did the ironing board exercises but it didn't help.

My MW sent me in for an external version at 37 weeks and the ultrasound revealed that the cord is around her neck- which may explain why she hasn't made it there. The doc seemed to think that she will move into position at some point, or else labor will force her when it starts, so he thought it was best to not interfere. What a relief! I know a version can be extremely painful and my hubby didn't have faith in the procedure in the first place.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it goes from here in out.

Not to be alarmist or scary, but this is the thought that has me a little tentative when it comes to turning the baby... I feel like sometimes they are where they are for a reason. Still I am following a similar plan to the one above, starting with exercises and swimming.

Hubby has developed a recent powerful aversion to the field of chiropractics... he has been researching every website debunking the profession and even though I've seen one for years he is scared and strongly asking me not to go again while pregnant. So it's awkward because I've recommended the Webster technique to so many people, but I'm trying not to actively alienate him from this birth right now; we're having enough problems.
So far I have other things to try, will probably have accupuncture and moxa next week then go in for a position check.

I totally agree! Especially since she's been changing position so much- it's like she knows what she needs to do but can't quite get there. I'm just thankful that the perinatologist suggested such a hands-off approach.

My midwife doesn't do breech births (I don't think anyone really does tranverse breech), so if things don't work out, they don't work out. I was upset at the thought of a possible c-sect, but I've comes to terms with it. Hopefully it won't come to that.

As for the Webster Technique, we considered it as well. I do think it helps if you're already on board with chiropractics, but I have always been skeptical and never got results with past treatments.

Here's wishing us all a little luck!

No midwife or doctor in my city will deliver a breech baby, apparently. I really don't want a C-section. My childbirth class instructor said a town 3 hours away has a doctor who's willing to deliver breech babies vaginally.

Would it be crazy to consider that?

Well, my baby has been breech, transverse and head down... it just won't stay head down. I do worry and wonder if it is a cord issue... and the way I see it, if it can't move it won't.

DH and I tried inversion and then ice packs and baby moved from breech to transverse. I do have an appt with an acupuncturist Monday (tues I will be 36 weeks). But might cancel because DH is "sick of" me spending money. That is another whole thread in itself.. (tough when you are a SAHM and don't ahve any money to do what you want to do with.. again long story.)

I am also going to get some homeopathics that my homebirth mw friend suggested. She did assure me that nothing we try will hurt/harm the baby, if it can't move, it won't.

I'm sitting around with a bag of frozen edamame on my belly right now. The baby turned breech today and I'm VERY upset about it. My first c-section was for breech. This one will be a vbac... turn, baby, you were vertex for so long! Don't be breech at 37 weeks!

Hi, I'm here too. I just got home from my weekly NST/US and I mentioned to the doctor that I thought she had flipped and she had. She's laying straight across with her but down. I'm meeting with my Midwife and the Pre-Natal Specialist on Tuesday to discuss what to do. I'm not sure of they will be able to turn her because my placenta is running right in front just about where she's lying. I'm afraid to try any of the exercises because of a friend who tried a few years back and the cord almost strangled her baby. She felt a really hard kick then no movement at all... she had an emergency c-section the next morning. So anyway, I've been told to rest and drink lots of fluid and not to take any contractions lightly. I don't know the last time anyone visited but, I hope everyone is doing well and babies are safe, healthy and turning naturally.

Hi -
Crossing fingers that things are going well for all of you. After being breech/transverse last week I spent about three days doing exercises, mostly breech tilt and inversions. Also went swimming, which I think was *really* good. And after feeling like there had been a lot of movement in those 2-3 days, I went to a midwife friend for a quick scan. Baby is now head down! Yay!!

So sending good vibes to every one of you!
