How many NB diapers per yard?

I'm thinking of ordering some PUL online since I can't seem to find it in ANY stores where I live. I was wondering how many newborn pocket diapers I could get out of 1 yard of PUL and 1 yard of microfleece...

Good luck and have fun!

Wow...that's definitely worth it! I went to a cloth diaper store and a single pocket diaper was 17.99$...ouch!

I get about 4 out of half a yard, so 8-9 sounds about right to me.

Ok, I must be doing something wrong... I don't get nearly that many. Does anyone have a link to pics of correct layout? TIA!

Those who get less than 7-9--are you making NB size dipes?

I can get 6 **medium** diaper bodies out of a yard of fabric. I get about 4 **large** diaper bodies out of a yard.

And keep in mind that if you use the same fabric for both layers of a 2-layer cover, you'll get half as many dipes as you got body pieces cut out (if I make medium-sized 2-layer fleece covers and use the same fleece inside and out, I get 3 finished diaper covers).

Do you use a half pattern or the full pattern? I have to use a full pattern and trace several out on my fabric before I cut to make sure I get the best lay-out. Also, keep in mind that PUL and fleece are typically 60" wide while most flannel is only 45", so that will make a big difference.

Renee~I'm not sure what I get with PUL, but with a yard of 45" flannel I usually get 6 mixed size body cuts {1 nb, 2 small, 2 medium, 1 large.} I think I'd probably only get 4 if I was cutting large only.

This is true--different widths will result in a different number of cuts And if you're mixing sizes (which I do as well) you'll get more cuts too But for PUL if I'm only doing one size, I get 8 NBs, 6 mediums, or 4 larges. And I almost always use half-patterns on a fold.

Thanks so much... and I *was* cutting large (one-size) diapers and getting about 4 per yard (yeah, I had a moment when I realized that the thread was talking about nb). Mixing sizes and not cutting on the fold is letting me get at least two more diapers (not larges) out of a yard....

It was good to have a solid idea of how many I should be getting... I feel better now when I cut 4 larges knowing that I've really gotten all I can out of that fabric. Thanks again mamas!
