Nursing Bras

Everyone got your nursing bras?

I JUST remembered that I need them yesterday! Luckily Babycenter.com of all places has Bravado bras on sale and free shipping right now! Bravado was the only brand I could stand last time (I cannot imagine wearing a nursing bra that has an underwire ) They should be here in a few days so hopefully I haven't waited too long!

My favorites from DS were Mimi Maternity soft cup bras. I scored them super cheap on eBay. I have a pretty good starter supply, but I would like to add some nursing tanks to the mix this time around.

I got a Bravado bra, and a tank.. gonna wait and see what the boobs do before I get anything else. Shame I missed the sale!

I'm still nursing dd2, but I haven't worn a nursing bra in a a couple years. I have just been lifting up my regular ones. It seemed like the nursing bras I've had in the past got worn out so quickly and it's really not that much more work to lift the bra than to undo hooks and all that. I wonder if I should get actual nursing bras again. Hmm...

I have some from my first, but I'm also planning on converting a few after a couple weeks since for my size they are really expensive *and* ugly. I've just hit another growth spurt so I'm sure I'm up to a G cup right now. I have some pretty soft-cup, supportive ones that I've been wearing for the pregnancy that are nice and broken in so it'll be no problem to convert them and still have them fit once my milk comes in.

My sister gave me her old nursing bras and I've been wearing them for awhile. That's all that I can squeeze these milk trucks into right now. And I swear that she gave me more than two but that's all I can find in the disaster area I call a bedroom just now. Le sigh.

I am debating getting nursing bras. In the summer I live in tank tops and those are so easy to just lift up. I used front closure bras last time after my nursing bras wore out. They do seem to wear out very quickly!

I'm so glad to see a post on this since I was just thinking about this topic yesterday.

I'm VERY small chested and my breasts have not really grown at all during this pregnancy. They have become a bit fuller but that's about all. I overheard a woman talking about sizing nursing bras and the suggestion was to find one that fits the rib cage and about 2 cup sizes up from what she currently was - she said you should be able to fit a fist in the nursing bra! That's easily double the size of my breast right now...is that realistic? My MIL said hers never got really big even while nursing and she's a similar size as I am. Granted, I know everyone is different but I hate to buy things I don't need.

Would I be better to wait until the baby is born or should I go ahead and try to get some ahead in anticipation?

Jaimee, I would wait until you hit 37 weeks, as you're pregnant with your first, or whenever baby drops. Work to that rib cage measurement, and up about 1 cup size- you should be able to slide your hand inside the cup with a breastpad in, but not rattle around in there, iykwim? I personally would strongly suggest getting a bravado or a glamourmom tank or something like that, which will hold your pads in place but has a lot of stretch that if you're surprised, you're surprised.

I have 2 or 3 bravados in hand, plus I'm going to get some "proper' bras from the NCT if I can find someone to fit them. Oh Jenn, check out www.nctsales.co.uk

Jamiee, I am pretty small chested too and it is hard to find a nursing bra. I think the smallest in most bra departments and my local maternity shop is a 34B. I was looking for a 36A last time around and could not find it..so I wore the b cup and as is said in a pp the tanks are much more comfortable! Even in cooler weather you can layer them under sweaters or other tops. Good luck!

Everyone is different, but with ds1 I went from an A cup to a C (bordering on D) in a matter of a day when my milk came in. I was also one of those gals who don't grow much during pregnancy. I was still wearing training bras at the end of the pregnancy What I like about the Bravado bras are that they don't come in cup size, just small, medium, large, or x-large so you just have to worry about your rib measurements (I'm a 34 and the medium fit me comfortably, I can't stand anything too tight on my ribs), the soft cups will expand to accomodate whatever you end up with breastsize-wise unless you end up going way past D.

Oohhh I hate bras, I hate bra shopping, it makes me want to stomp and scream and cry. They are a real downer for me. I hate them, hate them hate them, and the clothing manufacturers and retailers from which they come.::

I cannot buy my size in person, no store in person carries my size at all. Even plus size shops, even if they make clothes for women far bigger than I, but apparently refuse to carry bras bigger than a DDD or 44 band. Right now, I'm at about 50G (or so, I could be bigger, who knows, my bras have been hurting these days, I hope to Goddess I don't get any bigger, but knowing my crap luck). The bras I find have to be from online (which means guessing the sizes), and are always pricey. If they ain't pricey, they aren't worth a damn. And lets not even talk about the lack of beauty in these things... Just purely crap... It makes me want to pout all day long. And since most stores don't carry plus sized maternity, or are somethign like motherhood that refuses to believe that plus sized maternity means ***shock shock*** bigger boobs (yeah all of us size 24 women wear what a C cup, whatever - I can't even buy a shirt fromthem, let alone a bra), I can't find nursing tanks. I might try those tanks with a shelf bra, but I tend to bounce right out of them.

I don't know what I"m going to do, it's not like I can go out after the baby comes and buy anything to wear that day...::

Sorry about the rant, but I hate bras...

Thanks for the GREAT suggestions ladies! I think I'll go with nursing tanks to start out with and may get some bras if I feel it's necessary. Much like Teeny, I HATE BRAS (I'm just on the other end of the spectrum)! BTW - thank you for the much needed comic relief. While I am technically a 30B, I have the same problem, nobody makes bras in that size so it's always a fiasco.

Ok, so to be honest I'm a bit crunchy : by nature, but when your boobs don't have enough volume to hang over the bottom of the bra, they just end up looking lost in the cup or every time you raise your hands over your head, the bra follows and goes all the way up to your nipples. Neither of which are conducive to keeping a squirting nipple from giving you a good shower .

BUT - having the gift of being able to feed one's baby is SO worth it!

I have bought a few bras already. I was never really into what brand they were as long as they didn't have any wire in them. I also found that after engorgment plain old sports bras came in handy (and were cheaper).

I have really been looking into those nursing tank tops though. Anyone tried them? It would be nice if I am out not to have to try and position baby, and blankets across my stomach so no one would see my left over baby belly. Funny......after breast feeding a few kids I am much more worried about showing my abdomen than my built in bottles. lol
post #17 of 33
I've tried on a few nursing tanks, but when I find one that is big enough in the bust, it's just enormous around my midsection, and I hate an underneath layer that isn't nice and tight. I'm really excited to be able to use my belly band to keep my back and belly warm while nursing this time!

I have one Bravado that I didn't like that much, but will do until I can go out and find ones that I like better. The ones from Motherhood were good for me last time, but I don't envision venturing into the mall with my newborn anytime soon!

I just got two of bravado's newer bra that comes in sizes. I am a 38 F.
It is so much more supportive for me than the other ones that are just s-m-l-xl. I had those with my last two, but as they are now 4 years old they weren't going to even come close to being okay for this one. I did try them on to see
I think it is called the supreme nursing bra. It is for those of us that are a bit bigger.
Luckily for me there is a baby shop in a close by town that carries them and I got to try it on. It was worth the drive to know that they fit. And now I know if I find a sale online I can order the right size.

I also know from experience that when MY milk comes in MY boobs don't grow a whole cup size... my boobs just seem to change density. So that I should be great with these ones. They do have a bit of stretch to accomodate a slight growth

For me nursing bras are essential.... but maybe if they were smaller I could get away with just lifting a regular bra....

oooh...I think I want a couple of those Bravados, but I don't know what size to order. I understand that they go by band sizing, but the implied cup sizes on the sizings don't work out for me. I'm normally a 32D, but generally go ahead and wear a 34D, as a 32D is *really* difficult to find. So going by bandsize, I need a medium, but it says that's for A-C cups. Will a medium still work for me, you think?

I don't really like nursing bras, I had a few with ds but I quickly went back to wearing my regular ones. I am still nursing ds (although he's really down to once before bed) and I don't bother with them anymore. I don't think I'll be getting any with this new baby unless something changes!
