Nursing Bras - Page 2

I found that for around the house/running errands I like a crossover bra so I can just pull it out of the way, and because it holds breast pads over my leaky boobs. I don't like anything that pushes my boobs together (like tanks w/ a shelf, or the bravado style (double plus)) because I get sweaty.
but if you like this style, you might want to try YES! bras. (google it)
When I am at work or want to look nice i wear underwire anita nursing bras. I really really like them and they were totally worth the $65. I am still nursing DS and am not going to buy anymore anitas until my size stabilizes postpartum.
I actually don't see that nursing bras are any better or worse than regular bras. They're all annoying to buy. Because I pump at work, I will likely wear nursing bras for at least a year after this baby is born, then I suppose I'll have to go shopping again. *sigh*

Heh, lilyblossom, glad you thought it was funny, someone needs some humor out of it!! But it was more out of frustration, really. I really have a hard time finding any bra, and especially if I'm trying to keep a bugdet. I guess it is sort of funny, but it's one of my crumple into-a ball and cry issues. It's just really hard to find anything, and it frustrates me to tears... Stoopid clothing manufacturerers and their stoopid fashion ideas about who looks like what and who wears what. a big thumbs down to them!

I can totally relate Lilyblossom. My bras still sneak up over my boobs, totally annoying....and the shoulder straps never seem to stay put!

I would highly recommend the tanks, I got some at Motherhood last time. They were reasonably priced. There is one made by glamourmom, but it is quite pricey. I would rather have a few in different colors than just one or two.

Otherwise, in the warmer weather, I just go without!

Should you really buy a nursing bra before you have the baby. this is my first, and my breasts haven't grown very much... rib cage size has gotten bigger and my breasts are a little fuller (though not enough to increase my cup size). I'm just afraid to go out and spend money on something that I think will work just to find out that it doesn't. I had planned on just waiting till after I have the baby to go nursing bra shopping. But maybe I should buy at least one before hand so that when I do go out shopping, I don't have to worry about what bra to wear?

Hi Shanniesue,
Last time I didn't buy a nursing bra until after my baby was born and I could get out to get fitted. The result was that I got a good bra, but the downside was that I was uncomfortable in the meantime. If you are the type of person who is uncomfortable without a bra for a while, you may want to just get a stretchy sleep bra of some sort. Then you will have some sort of support, and if you find that you are a leaky type you will have something to hold your nursing pads against your body. This type of bra doesn't have to be expensive.

Teeny - I'm sorry if that came across as insensitive. I have just totally been in your position before and can completely sympathise. I tend to try to laugh my butt off otherwise I would be just like you, crumpled up on the floor in tears. You could not have said it better when you mentioned the clothing manufacturers. Why do they pigeon hole us women into fitting into certain sizes and shapes and those of us outside of it end up getting the bum wrap when we can't get what we need unless we shell out a fortune? And then the ultimate indignity - not being able to find what we need and still maintain a feminine affect! In my case, bras that properly fit tend to be made towards little girls, nothing like wearing underwear that has the day of the week on the back..... There has to be a better way.

FYI: mamas who need to try on a bunch of bras and return the ones that don't fit...this site is great. She ships super fast and takes 'em all back, no questions asked. I must have ordered twenty bras from her before finding a few that work. She has free shipping, too, so that helps a lot.

Also, for those of us who are larger, I haven't yet ordered from this site (waiting until dh gets paid next week), but these bras look like they will fit any and all of us! Their band sizes go up to a 54 and the cups to an L. And they do customize any of their bras, so I figure I can't go wrong! http://www.decentexposures.com/unbra.shtml

Good luck. Bras suck. All the time. Which is why my giant boobs flap about most of the time and hang out on my stomach....because I hate wearing a bra! But leaking onto my shirts constantly is not a good choice, so I will succumb and order a new bra or two next week.

You're really ok, I'm actually glad you found humor in it! Kind of brought me out of a "poor me I hate bras" zone. It was nice to have a different perspective on what I wrote, no worries!

But yes, I completely agree with you on the ridiculous limits the clothing manufacturerers give us... at them!!

I got a couple tanks and "night" nursing bras at montherhood last time I went. I got a comfortable ribcage size and one cup larger on the bras. I tried on a couple of the regular nursing bras but I HATED the way they looked. I am going to wait until later to get some good ones, I couldn't tell if these ones looked awful because I was trying on a larger size than normal or just because the styles didn't fit me. Anyhow, I don't plan on going many places for a few weeks pp and when I do the tanks will do just fine, I hope!

Thanks so much for this link! This looks good and it's something I can actually afford!! Man, bras are expensive!

Are there any nursing tanks that are long and don't give you uni boob? Oh, and I need them to be affordable, like under $20-$30. Anything?

I think today we're going to go out and find me a soft cup sleep bra or two and then a tank or two at Motherhood - that's all the budget will allow right now. I also have a Bravado bra that has seen better days from when I had Sydney and I want one or two more but I think I'll wait until after 6 weeks or so to order those - let my body figure out what size it wants to be!

That sounds like a good plan to me. I was at Motherhood last night picking up tops and asked about bras. She said to come back in a week or two (I'm 35 weeks currently) and they'd help me find a few sleep bras. She said that to plan on not buying "real" nursing bras till a few weeks after the babe is born....makes sense to me! I know I went from a C, to an F, back down to a D last time.
