I have a question: Not sure if this is the right forum but I will post here nonetheless. I have always with both of my children nursed both sides at each feeding. (1st for 15 months, second for 26 months) I never had issues with weight gain or anything. I keep reading about foremilk and hindmilk imbalances. The way it has worked for me is that I start on the alternating breast with each feeding - the long feed is on one side and followed by a shorter feeding on the other side like 15 minutes and 5 minutes respectively. Am I the only person who nurses both sides with each feeding? I found that it is really the only way to keep my supply up.

Nursing Both sides

bellejar, I nursed from both sides at the beginning because my supply was fairly low. I think that I did what you do - we "finished off" one side and started on the other, then the next feeding I "finished off" the opposite side and started on the other.
I didn't make her do this - she was a high sucking need kind of baby and would have been happy to do this all day. And she did, some days.
We switched to one side only when my supply was ample and she was motoring around and less focused.
Now she's 2 1/2 and she'll pop back and forth at will.
Which is probably good, considering that 1 side has very low supply now.

I'd just keep doing whatever worked. You'd know there was an issue with foremilk/hindmilk imbalance if there was one. There'd be green poop and a fussy baby.

I don't think it matters beyond what your body and baby get used to. I nurse ds exclusively on one side and dd on the other. DS is growing fine, and dd is old enough that she's not really nursing for the calories. If poop and weight gain are normal, it's all good IMO.
