Dishes

Where can I find dishes that will last and do not contain lead? I'm also looking for ones that are smaller than average (maybe 10inches, can't remember) for portion control. I don't want coffee cups and saucers, so a set may be a waste of money. I rather stock up on mugs with Jane Austen quotations .

I hope someone posts that corelle ware is lead free. that's what I have and it's great, lightweight yet durable. I've picked pieces up here and there at thrifts so I have a mismatch of patterns but all the same size/shape so things fit easier in the cabinet. the dinner plate size is 10inch and I have one plate, don't know what they label it as but it's 8.5 in, I really like that one, especially when we eat pasta, I can actually feel full yet comfortable in my pants after dinner

I have Fiestaware. Made in the US and lead free

Sorry folks, Corelle is not lead-free! They use an "acceptable level" of lead in their dishes - I just got rid of all of mine. If you email, they'll tell you this.

Dansk and Pfaltzgraff are both lead free, as well as Fiestaware.

Here's a link with more info:

from the way I read the link, it's the Corelle stoneware that has lead, and not the vitrelle material.

I love my Corelle. It takes up so little space and yes, they offer a variety of sizes

fiestaware here too! Leadfree since 1920 or so. I like to go to the once a year sale at the fiestaware outlet everything is one dollar. Of course you have to go to West Virginia They also have an online outlet with pretty good deals.

You just have to avoid the vintage red Fiestaware becuase they used trace amounts of uranium oxide in the glaze to get the color back then.

I have the williams sonoma's essential white, the dinner plate is 10" with a 1 1 /2" rim, so the usable portion is 7". From the linked site, it looks like 0 lead, you can get only plates, no mugs if you like. I think they are only on-line, but can sometimes find them on sale or with free shipping. I like mine. They do say Made in China...

Fiestaware is lead free since 1986. The "new" FW is marked "lead free" on the reverse, the old FW is not. The orange (called red) has LOTS of unrefined uranium in it ... noticeably radioactive!

Here are places to get Fiesta, you can get a smaller size plate, they have lots of choices.
