OK, talk to me honestly/ brutally about a name... - Page 2

I love the name river, always have. My dh vetoed it as well, but I think it is a great name. My friends named their son Rio, which is river in Spanish. I like that too.
Good luck,
Sarah

I really do love that name. I think the worst thing you can do is name your child a name so common that there will be 5 other children in their class (when they get to school) with the same name.

I am all about unique names and it is even better when it is a beautiful name. River is great. If you both like it I say go for it!!!! Plus that is like the only thing you will ever be able to control about your child no matter what happens in years to come. Their name will always be what you gave to them. It is a precious gift. Make it unique and beautiful and pick something that speaks to you.

I have been stuck on the name Jaslene this whole pregnancy. Since I can remember my first girls name was always going to be Jasmin because that name reminds me of pretty eyes and I just know my baby girl will have beautiful eyes like a princess but when I got pregnant it developed into Jaslene. And now I am even thinking of naming her Crystal after myself. I don't know. I may wait until the moment she is born and when I see her something totally different may come to me. But a name is among one of the first gifts you ever give your child. Make it count.

Hmm. This isn't what you're meant to say... (you're meant to tell me that this little boy is meant to be Samwise Sam Vimes....) but thankyou.

Um... if you don't want Samwise Sam Vines, I'll take it!

Why not just cut to the chase and name him Nobby, Carrot or Vetinari

I hear Glod is a good choice too.

ETA:

ooohhh - MOIST! I Think Moist Douglas Neale has a nice ring to it - you can even knit him a little gold top hat with wings on it.

Thank you for allowing me this oportunity to completely geek out!

That's my opinon too. LOVE the name, but I don't like it so much with Skye.

Oh, my ds2's name is Samuel, and we call him "Samwise" quite a bit after the guy in LOTR.

ROLF.

You are all cracking me up. I like River though. I grew up next to a large river and associate the word with strength and power, it would be a strong name for a boy IMO.

OT: I feel so far behind. I don't really have much to go on for a name yet. And while I consider myself fairly intuitive, I'm getting no flashes on this little ones name. And the few names DP and I have agreed upon are boy names....so if this is a girl we'll really be stuck.

: More confused.

You know Skye's named after the island, not the blue stuff, right? That one isn't actually just dodgy spelling...but I can see how it might be misleading.

I guess less people on your side of the pond will make that mistake!

Another vote for River!

For what it's worth, the only person in real life I know that named her son River was a Marine my husband worked with. She is about the farthest thing from a hippy.

I personally love the name, it's great, wish I could talk my husband into a hippier name

Keri Russell (Felicity) recently named her baby boy River. I think that it's so cute.
