Undigested food in diaper?

I'm sure there's already been threads on this (in fact I think I've seen them) but I can never get the search function to work properly... it brings up all sorts of irrelevant things... anyways...

what I am wondering is if undigested food in my 8 m/o's diaper suggests she might not be ready for solids..? She self-feeds sticks of things like soft pear, apple, sweet potato, etc., but this morning her BM looked like it had undigested chunks of apple or something in it. Is this normal?

tia,

IME that's very normal. Dd was nearly 2 before stuff really looked different coming out than going in.

They are still digesting some of the stuff. In general it's the fiber they don't digest. You don't digest it either - but because you chew things more thoroughly it doesn't end up as chunks.

Hmm, ok, thanks. I wonder what the BMs of babies fed purees are like? (ew what a gross thing to wonder! ha ha)

Mix purees with baby poop to find out it just looks like baby poop. Leading some to argue that *purees* are better digested.

I'll never forget the first time I fed DS raisins, and the subsequent poop!
I thought what are those round things! I thought he'd eaten something foreign off the floor! Then I realized later that because he really couldn't chew them, they swelled up to nearly the size of grapes!
