Has anyone ever made them? Would I need something else next to my skin to wick away moisture? Any advice for making them?

Yes and they are AWESOME. you don't need to do anything, just cut circles from a felted sweater(not to thick and lumpy) one layer worked fine, so there was no sewing involved. I used merino wool and it worked great, really held alot, great against your skin.

I do this too. I felt the wool, but I do then serge it, just for the heck of it. I usually use lambswool, in a neutral color, if I can find it. Then I lanolize it. Use away. They ROCK.
