Pre Sex Ed

DS came home the other day and told us that his friend "john" said his parents took a nap naked and were kissing and hugging each other. "John" and my DS are both 5. They thought this was beyond hilarious. My son did ask us how it was a nap if they were not sleeping. My husband and I just said "oh, moms & dads do that sometimes" and left it at that. He has not mentioned it since. But of course the day after my son brought this up we were all at a birthday party and I got to meet "John's" dad. Sometimes its really hard to keep a straight face

My son caught my husband and I in the act once and yes, he thought it was hilarious. We explained it as a special cuddle for married grownups.
But gosh- I was so embarrassed being around the people he told- like the babysitter.

Another interesting lesson for me as the grown-up. I bought a sex-ed book, a really sweet and gentle one designed for the 4-7 year age group, to share with my son not long after that. I did share it with him, but he wasn't particularly interested. It was too much information for him. He much preferred the "special cuddle" explanation at that 4 year old stage.

This is like my biggest fear! Not so much my child walking in, but all the people she would discuss it with. It's a standing joke at our church that whoever she has as a teacher needs to sign a confidentiality clause not to pass on all the things she might mention in class! She loves to talk......
