Material for oven mitt

I just saw/bought the cutest oven mitt in the world and I want to copy the idea and make lots of them! So what do you think it good fabric for the outside? I am going to use up old towels I have for the inside layer that won't be seen but will be the thickest part.
This is what it looks like. And it came with recipe cards. What a great gift idea, I cannot wait to make some.

OMG! That is really cute. I have't even thought about oven mitts, they seem easy enough to make as well. Now something else for me to think about making since I only have one oven mitt that is so worn I still get burnt using it. I think mine has a layer of batting in it, so that is a thought.

I used my mom's old skirt.

The fabric that works well for oven mitts is called insulbrite. At JoAnn's, the insulbrite with the batting already on it is marked as "ironing board cover fabric" and it with the drapery hardware in the home dec section.
