Idea I want to run by some ladies I trust!

OK I was thinking about labor attire with the actuality that our little group is starting to have babies!!

I kept thinking about how I'm a more modest person and would like to be covered (and warm in this chilly weather) but didn't want my nether regions inaccessable. Binsi skirts are far too expensive, plus they don't keep your legs warm!

So would anyone be interested in shirt/matching leg warmer/sock sets for birth if they were available? I'm thinking of making some "mama legs" (lol) and having everything match (cause it's nice to match ) For birth and was thinking of marketing them at some point.

So what do you think?

The shirts could be customized and even nursing friendly!

I think that is a cute idea in theory! For all 3 of my births I have worried about my modesty, but when it comes time to actually being in labor I could really care less! Usually I am so hot and sweaty, but also do remember getting the shivers in the transitional phase.

I have had all 3 of my kids in hospital/birthing centers. I usually bring in my own PJ's for after and have a nice long robe to wear during labor if I am cold. With our last baby I was in and out of the shower and whirlpool tub and I think they just threw hospital gowns on me!

I really do think Mama Legs is a cute idea and could be a great shower gift!

I agree that clothing is irritating, obnoxious, and anoher good reason to hate people, but with teenagers in my family (some of them male) IMthink I would definitely have gotten my money's worth out of your birthing outfit, especially since I would still be wearing it during the postpartum phase...I so wish I had one NOW, since dear clueless ds1 had to open ALL the blinds, my bathrobe is in the wash trying to get the meconium off, and I really care more about my poor 20 hour old's abandonment fears than I do abou the sensibilities of anybody who might happen to walk past my house and get an eyeful.

I've also never had a hospital birth but can certainly understand the modesty around strangers aspect.

Binsi is WAY too expensive! We need some WAHMs picking up on this idea! Just be careful about the initial outlay for materials.

DEFINITELY a cute idea... even though I am a nekkid birther.

Is it something that could be used later, even if it never makes it on a body during labor/birth? I'm all for multi purpose items!

I think it sounds like a cute idea. I agree though, you think you want modesty but when it comes time... I know I didn't care at all that everything was showing to whoever. They could have left my door open in the hospital for all to see and I would. not. have. cared. one. bit.

I also like the idea of a multi-purpose outfit. I am planning a waterbirth and I don't think I will wear anything, I wouldn't want the baby to feel self-conscious about being the only naked person there.

But something for afterwards would be great. The mama-legs would be perfect to wear with a housecoat that doesn't go much past the knees leaving ones legs exposed to the cold. And the top could also come in handy I am sure cuz I don't have any tops that will accomodate BF, and lifting a t-shirt up to BF would not be the warmest.

Ok here's what I'm seeing in my head:

Tank top or tshirt converted into nursing tank (ideally I would like longer tank tops):

Leg warmers that go all the way up the thigh like these (except I could knit them and make special colorways)
http://www.amazon.com/Warmers-Charco..._sim_a_title_3

And socks if they were desired (could be embellished to match!)

How does that sound? It could definitely be an afterbirth outfit as it would still aid in allowing access for postpartum bleeding checks and easy bathroom breaks

I would steal from Welcome with Love and do a button-front nightshirt with knee socks. Personally I wouldn't want anything that went too far past my knees, I'd rather have the top layer come down further when I'm standing up. In fact, I'd probably look for a 3-part outfit- nursing tank (with snap cups) the socks and the nightshirt/ house coat type thing to go between the two.

I think it's a really cute idea too, but I also get naked as soon as it really hits me. I wonder, though... if you are going to knit these, I would assume that you'd have to charge a fortune to pay yourself a decent hourly wage and also cover expenses..how much would they cost?

That's all stuff I'd have to look into It probably wouldn't be as expensive as long as I could find a nice soft non-scratchy acrylic yarn. Thats what most of the ones I've found online have been made of. Obviously if someone wanted natural fibers it would be more!

Circular sock machine?

I would love to have something warm for my legs- I remember my feet feeling like blocks of ice last birth. I don't know if I'd want them quite that high, and I'd definately want my feet covered.

Just wanted to mention my two cents based on going to many births as a doula - in my experience, many mamas are very hot in active labor (except for chills, lol, so something easy on/off like a blanket serves for that). Also just the reality that birthing is messy business... I pictured the leg warmers covered with amniotic fluid or bloody show, actually! Or a mama worrying about messing them up. So that's my only hesitation about something that covers the legs. A long top seems more versatile for women with modesty issues, or a robe for cold.
Sorry that's not very encouraging!
