Should Women Have the Right to Breastfeed Wherever They'd Like - Page 2

yes

Well, I don't know. I voted "yes," because I think they're thinking mostly about public places, but I support the idea that a host has the right to limit a guest's breastfeeding. Wherever they like, besides someone else's private residence. Not that anyone should limit a/o else's breastfeeding wherever, but it should be their right in their own home.

Go ahead, flame me!

I just voted, the NOs are now down to 11%.

Word! Not that it's the safest idea in the world, but neither is letting baby scream. Often, I'll nurse him just long enough for him to go to sleep, then unlatch and let the car do its magic.

It's during these situations that I LOVE my saggy breasts that can reach quite a ways! LOL!

Haha! We do this on a daily basis!

I have been given a comment or two about BF in public. I am very discreet and really only do it when I have to. I ask ppl in return to their remarks if it would be better for us all if my kid sits there and screams because she is hungry, or if they minded their own business so I can take care of the need of my baby. It's rude for them to be so nosy, so I usually get all worked up that they had the nerve to say something rude to me

I wonder if it would change the responses if the question was worded as "Should babies have a right to nurse wherever they'd like?"

This is what I told them. It's not about MY rights. It is about the right for my baby, to eat when he's hungry and drink when he's thirsty. I told them, when the tank is empty... it's empty! And everyone around you knows it -- real fast. So, you feed the baby.

I think I said something pithy like "A woman has the right to breastfeed anywhere she would have the right to bottle feed."

I recall that we once came up with a situation where either would be inappropriate - feeding a child in a waiting room in a hospital filled with children who are in a NPO pre-surgery situation because it would just be cruel to the other, hungry, stressed children to let them see your child nursing/eating when they can't have anything.

I can't do the car seat lean - my boobs are too small.

Grrrr... the "no's" are back up to 12%.

"Wherever" they'd like?

No.

Anywhere that the general public has the right to eat?

Yes.

Big difference. A nursing mom should not be afforded the privilege of nursing in, say...the kitchen of a restaurant (unless for some weird reason it's offered by the owner or manager), for the obvious reasons (wouldn't want to nurse my baby around hot plates and sizzling grease anywho). But anywhere that anyone is allowed to eat, yes. Exceptions should be made for areas where it's stated "no open food or drink allowed" because...well one can't really spill a boob. Breastfeeding should not be legal grounds for revoking someone's right to be somewhere, such as a store or eatery.

Wording is everything and this poll seems purposely vague and inflammatory.

Why isn't the question, "Should BABIES have the right to breastfeed wherever they want?"
edit... whoops, didn't read ahead; I see it's already been said.
