Baby Ben has arrived!

Benjamin Douglas Joel made his entrance on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 5:22pm. He was: 9lbs. 13oz., 21 inches long, 15 inch head circumference (to which my midwife exclaimed "that's a c-section head!" ). No tears!

Um, I think you guys were kidding went you sent me your ELV, because that labour was nothing easy. As far as inductions go, it was a typical MDC induction nightmare: ridiculously slow progress, oxtyocin, fentanol, epidural, room FULL of nurses and doctors, 32.5 hours from start to finish. But you know what? I have no regrets in my decision to induce. I am very proud of myself for what I accomplished. Despite it being long and difficult and full of interventions I *know* it was the right thing to do. That may sound strange, but he is the healthiest, most content baby EVER. 9s on both his Apgar scores, perfect blood sugar levels despite mine being very high, nursing wonderfully. I had incredibly bad back labour, but I was able to get Ben to turn anterior during labour and had some EXCELLENT non-drug pain relief and positions that helped. I will post about them later on when I have a bit more time.

Congrats Mama! Okay, Ben is officially a big boy! The no tears is awesome! This time around, with no tears, recovery has been sooo much easier!

I really think that birth has it's own plan...and we just do the best we can with what is given to us. My birth was not at all like I had hoped, but I am not upset about it. I was very lucky to avoid most interventions, but this birth really opened up my eyes as to being more flexible and open to what labor and birth bring. I am very glad you are at peace with your birth.

Welcome to the world, little Ben!
