Sleep deprivation, suicidal thoughts

I'm new here, but I'm wondering if anyone else who struggles with depression has severe trouble sleeping. I'm unable to sleep most nights unless I take megadoses of sleeping pills, which makes me uncomfortable since we cosleep. I really battle suicidal thoughts the nights I can't sleep.:

It's like my body doesn't know how to go to sleep. I've been on everything natural/herbal and am planning on asking for a prescription from a new doc in a couple of weeks. I'm kind of nervous about taking something on a long term basis, but I need sleep!

Are you sleep deprived because your baby keeps waking up or because you just cannot fall asleep?

I have trouble sleeping when I get really stressed out, though not to the level you described. Perhaps, instead of sleeping pills, antianxiety medication might help. If you are having suicidal thoughts, please get help NOW.

I would go to the doctor and ask for a referral to a sleep specialist. If your feeling suicidal, you really do need to make the call immediately. Sleep deprivation is horrible and I hope you start feeling better soon!
