Socks on 4 dbl. pointed needles-need help

Hi all, I have just started knitting my first sock and at first things were going along ok, but now it seems like there is a problem.
The stitches within the sock tube seems not to be right-meaning that the stitches in the inside of the tube look like they should be on the outside (the part that people see) and the outside stitches look like they should be on the inside of the knitted tube. What am I doing? The last time I tried to do the heel, it was all garter stitch (bumpy looking) on the outside which I just undid and now I've started completely over.
Help please!

Here's a little tutorial on how to avoid knitting inside out.

and another:

You probably can just push the work down through the circle of dpns so the stockinette side is out, and keep going.

Thank you so much for the info. It really helped me. I was knitting with the work away from me, so I was knitting into the tube.

I don't have any advice, I haven't had the problem, just wanted to say good luck on your socks I've recently made my first pair of socks, and it was defnitely a learning experience. Can't wait to make another pair!

Just remember your working yarn is always coming off from/attached to the right side of your material (the piece on your right needle.)
