I need to find the knitting love!!!

I really am not feeling the love for knitting. I find it slow. I know part of that is because I am knew at it but... I have ripped out so many projects because I get bored or irritated with them. Can some one give me some inspiration!!!!!

Yep: why do you want to knit? Is it because you love the process, the idea of creating? Is it because you want to give your family and loved ones something handcrafted? Or because you have this overwhelming urge to strip naked and jump into balls of yarn, and knitters are the only people on this planet (apart from spinners, and maybe crocheters) who can sympathise?

I think my problem is that I look at a knitting pattern and think, "Gee, I could crochet that faster!"

Maybe I am just being lazy! LOL

I have a new pattern that I am going to try today. And it requires me buying new yarn. (That always gets me in the spirit.)

Thanks!

I don't think you're being lazy. I agree that crochet usually is faster, especially if you learned crochet first. At least that's my experience, as someone who was taught crochet at about 8yo by my Mom and Grandma and only learned to knit about 2 years ago. Despite being based on only 2 stitches, knitting seems less intuitive to me and I have to work harder to get it right.

I find great success by doing bulky/quick projects that I make up as I go along in between trying a new technique or pattern I have to read with a finer more difficult yarn...this keeps me in finished objects that give a bit of success between learning spurts!

Good luck with the new project!

OK, so what do you want to knit that you can't crochet? Socks?

Actually, my desire to learn to knit is more sentimental than anything else.

My first knitting project was a scarf...sooo slooooowwww... I made it pretty short. IT was also enormously boring to make.
My second project (a year later) was a baby hat...also pretty slow...small needles, took forever (114 stitches on the round!)
My current project is felted socks (knitty.com's 'fuzzy feet' pattern). BIG fat yarn. BIG fat needles. And I don't have to be worried about little mistakes because felting will cover them... This project has gone MUCH faster, and I'm finding that I can finally knit without having to focus intently on the needles (ie, I can carry on a conversation while doing it!) I'm really enjoying it now!

I know there are knitting purists who think that felting is cheating, but seriously, I think it's a great way to get off to a good start because it's very forgiving, and since it's big loose stitches (on big needles) it goes fast.

Ooh, this project looks like fun. I may just try this for my first ever sock attempt. Thanks!
