Gift for midwife?

I loved my midwife. My last appointment with her is on Wednesday, and I'd like to give her a little gift. If I can't find anything better I'll get her a bottle of wine or something, but she's headed for a 4 month stint in a very remote northern medical station and I'd like to get her something useful for that.

Any ideas?

I got my midwives a subscription to a "tea of the month" club for their office - I got the same for the staff at the NICU where DS was too. They really seemed to appreciate it - but it sound slike that might not work.

Maybe a really beautiful little teapot and some special teas that she can use to warm her up on her stay in the North?

I got my midwife a coffee mug that said "Midwifery is Catching" from cafepress.com. If you seach "midwife" they have great t-shirts, mugs, etc. Token stuff but some of it is cute. They ship very quickly too.

hillarious!

we got her a small golden pig charm (it was the year of the pig). you could look up the chinese animal year for your babe? I think it's still year of the pig till sometime in feb.

symbolic, maybe not very useful.

I got one of mine a watch. Very helpful and necessary for timing contractions, etc. And I think midwives go through watches pretty quickly due to waterbirths and, um, other fluids.

have you ever heard of the publication "THE COMPLEAT MOTHER" ?

(yes, Compleat... not complete)...

It is a rich, warm publication filled with midwifery, pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding info...

(If you buy a subscription.. can you mention my name? maybe I'll get a few free issues? :~) hee hee)

This is a gift she will REALLY, REALLY like!! (Although she may not be able to enjoy it right away in her travels...) -its printed quarterly... I LOVE IT!
