Quick, help me argue against daily NST's...

Just like it says... any studies that show daily NST's as being pretty useless would be appreciated. I know there is a high rate of false positives (negative readings without real negative issues) but anything to both back that up and give me MORE would be appreciated.
I know the anguish and anxiety they give me sure does not seem to be worth the information "they" are getting... I am afraid the daily NST's are just going to set me up for more and more intervention... My baby does not "perform for the machine" about 3/4 of the time... and that does not worry ME...
She seems happy, content and please, leave her alone.
I don't see how this 1 hour a day of monitoring is going to "protect" OR "save" my baby...
HELP!

Nothing helpful, but instead of trying to argue your 'side' maybe just say 'no, I'm not comfortable with that and I don't want to discuss it' They're going to try to scare you into it and the stress of that might be worth doing the test- so, is it more stressful to argue w/them and not do it or do it and argue over the results? Instead of NST's, maybe do kick counts or something for them?

Yes, I think a big fat I DO NOT CONSENT may be in order here!

I agree with Shelbean--especially with her kick counts suggestion, since you said in your other thread that baby is very active, she just doesn't like to perform for the doctors. Maybe you could compromise by doing the kick counts a couple times a day for them and just doing the NST's like twice a week or so, just so they have their record. Good luck mamma!

thanks mamas... i did find some good info online, turns out i didn't need it... after talking to the resident ob, the nurse came back and told me she wrote on the chart, "may refuse nst's"

that wasn't as hard as i thought it was gonna be. lol

it's gotta be really hard though for a lot of women though... they never get that far before they are caving to the pressure...
I knew I could absolutely refuse if it came down to it, I guess I was just feeling a little timid about using "because I don't want to" route... it doesn't sound very edu ma cated.
I keep thinking that if I sound like I know what I'm talking about, they will be nicer to me, but in reality, they haven't really been MEAN. I'm a little defensive right now... hahaha imagine that.

Woohoo, no NST's! Don't forget that YOU can ask THEM to give you the evidence based information that shows that it's beneficial. If anything, it'll delay them while they look it up.

that was basically Henci's advice

I had a whole list of "if you want me to do them, then show me THIS stuff"
I didn't even have to bust it out.
