Can't uncurl lips @ 7 wks

I have a 7-week-old boy who powerfully curls BOTH LIPS inward, which has caused some soreness ... I've tried to pull his lips out, but it doesn't work, and he clamps down when I put my finger in the corner of his mouth. I even tried the tip of a metal baby spoon ... Will this ruin breastfeeding for me? Is it possible for him to change this late? Any advice much appreciated ...

I don't know anything about this, but I know of a few moms who have had success working with a cranial-sacrial therapist. Also, maybe an occupational therapist who has experience with oral issues might be able to help.

Aside from the soreness, has he been getting enough from nursing?

Thanks for the reply. He seems to be getting enough; wet diaper every feeding and messy ones every day. I read another post and tried popping out the bottom lip with a wet finger, which works for a minute though it's frustrating for both of us. I'm trying this today to re-train him; I'm sure a bad habit takes time. Ugh!

Have a GOOD lactation consultant check for a lip tie (labial tie) It's like a tongue tie, but the upper lip's frenulum is too tight.

It's hard to find someone to fix it, but if you keep on it you might find a ped or ENT or midwife to clip it.

Here's a thread on tongue tie. I hope this helps.
