Knits on a plane!!!

I have a 13 hour flight on Thursday. I don't anticipate having a whole lot of time to knit, since I'll be alone with my 2 year old, but I think she'll probably sleep for at least a couple of hours.

So, how many projects do I carry on? I've already checked and I can bring my KnitPicks Harmony circs.

I am currently working on a pair of convertible fingerless gloves for my DH, but I hope to get them done before I leave. I also have 6 inches into one leg warmer for my DD, but I'm thinking of frogging it and starting over since I learned how to do 2 at a time on one needle.

I also have a soaker I need to knit up for a friend; she asked for it in NOVEMBER!!! and I've put off knitting it, so that would be a good project.

I would like a pair of gloves for myself, and will have enough of the yarn from DH's leftover to do a reverse-matched pair. (His are black with red, I will have enough to do mine in red with black.)

OR I could do something really simple and just bring a ball of cotton and a single set of 7s and do a million washcloths, since that's something I can easily put down at a moment's notice.

What would YOU knit?

(Whatever projects I don't carry on will be in my checked bags, since this is a primarily knitting vacation!)

I'd take the longies. They shouldn't be too brain-intensive, so if your dc is occupied with her tasks, you can do them without thinking too hard about it. And since it's the only thing you'll have with you, you won't have an excuse to keep putting it off!

Man that's a long flight!

I agree. Take the soaker. But I'd also bring on the leg warmers as it might be a good time to do a mindless task like takinge the one apart that you started (is that what "frogging it" means?) I'm a newbie to these terms! Anyway...I've traveled alot with my dd (including when she was 2) and really, it sounds like you'll have a lot of time to knit, but somehow it just doesn't turn out that way.

So I'd bring one mindless task and one that needs to get done. My two cents!

Things that you don't need to pay attention to or that are thoughtless.

I've flown with my kids a lot and never had the option to knit even when they fell asleep because they were usually in my lap.

Holy Crap that's a long flight!

I'd go with the soaker.

How about some socks or something lacey as well?

That is a long flight. Where are you going? I want a knitting vacation!

I would take the soaker and some socks.

Having JUST got back on Saturday, I'll just say that I got no where near as much done as I had hoped. I only got about 6 inches of a moss stitch kids scarf done for BOTH flights (granted my total was only about 10 hours, not one way.) On the plane I get tired and I just couldn't focus, plus stopping for drinks, etc.... Regardless, keep it mindless because you'll be picking it up and putting it down often.

I'm flying from Frankfurt, Germany to St. Louis, Missouri.

Soaker it is!!! I've also started brainstorming the design, to make it both mindless and interesting to knit...I think it's going to be blue and gold horizontal pinstripes!!!

Edited: didn't read carefully and as it turns out, you already checked to make sure you can bring your knitting needles through security. I wouldn't bring more than three projects.

Have a good trip!
