What would you do with it

Pay it to my husband's car loan -- our last debt!!

I chose other. I'd put it in our savings account.

ETA: I guess I could have chosen "Emergency Fund" but that is not really what we call it, so I didn't think of it!

D'oh. I should have made that an option.

I clicked consumer debt - but what I really mean is mortgage - also needed as an option

Poll wouldn't let me choose more than one option. My instinct was to pay down credit card bills - to avoid the interest. But I ultimately voted to pay late gas/electric bills - to keep the power on in the winter! : After those were done, I'd pay the rest minus $50 or so to credit card bills. Then I'd do something fun with the $50.

I'd do it in this order:

- If you're behind on bills, I'd catch up on those first
- If you don't have at least $500 in savings to cover an emergency, fill that in
- Then pay off debts

Well, I put emergency fund, but what I really mean is that I would put it into the fund we are saving to start DC #2's 529 plan when he or she is born. We already have enough in the emergency fund.

I would put it toward our house--we have some renovation projects we need/want to do. I voted "put it toward something we need."

I'd buy something that we need.

That is the purpose of the rebate to put more cash in to the system.
It will probably go toward a home improvement project that will raise the equity in our house.

debt even though 800 wontcover 1 credit card.

Our oven broke a few weeks ago, and I think parts are no longer made for it. We would probably replace it if we had a windfall like that.

We're not in the US but if we got that it would go right into the savings account.

btw, don't you guys find it sad that the whole point of that "bonus" is to get people spending more money, when the average consumer is already spending more than they have? this thread is home to the few who would use that money responsibly, and that would actually defeat the government's plan for that money (which is to get you to buy stuff).

Put it in the "pay the midwife" fund.

Put into investments...

We don't have any debt other than my student loan which I'm not paying down early as it's at 1.65% and I'm using it to establish my credit. So, I would put half in my Roth IRA and use half for something fun. I voted other cause that option wasn't on there

Well I need a new dryer but I would probably use it to pay off a loan we have. Once we pay it off it would clear up $180 a month.

we have some credit debt, but there are also about a gajillion things we need, so that's my first priority. $800's barely even enough to buy furniture, grumble...
