How teamwork leads to wonderful nasty cookies

As I've posted in a couple places, I've been really sick this week. Its been hard on my kids -- and I've been scrambling to help them think of ways to pass time and not go crazy from boredom. Today my 3 yo walked into my room, saw me in bed, and burst into tears saying, "I'm getting tired of this. Get dressed and play with me!"

So I dug out a cookie mix that I bought on a whim ages ago (I have no idea why.) I told them I'd help with the oven part, but they were on their own for the rest of it.

Well, it was so sweet and adorable to listen in. My older son read the directions and "directed" and my younger son helped and followed orders. The most frequent direction I heard was "Now you have to wash your hands *again*!"

All I did was put the tray in and out of the oven and sample the product. Let me tell you, I have NO freaking clue what they put in these cookies and they are the most gosh-awful-nasty things I have *ever* in my life tasted! But you should just SEE how proud and pleased with themselves they are! And they are getting along too, which is a minor miracle.

Its so hard for me to keep my opinions and my "helpfullness" out of this sort of project, but I'm glad I did.

How wonderful! Do THEY like the taste of the cookies, or are they just so proud of having made them that they don't care about the taste?

Sounds like a kids' cookbook, with recipes using ingredients you tend to keep in stock, would be a good thing to have on hand!

Well, I think they at least pretended to like the taste. But most of the little guy's ended up in the trash.

I didn't mind wasting a .69 cent cookie mix. I'm not sure that I could deal with them wasting real food on a regular basis though!
