Some people are purists and would never put anything but organic, undyed, barely-treated-in-any-way, might-as-well-dress-the-baby-in-a-pile-of-cotton-balls cotton and wool.

Others do not believe that fabric dye is all that horrible, and have no problems putting it on their baby. We just make sure that the dyed items have been washed really well so that they are not still bleeding dye, and don't have any other fabric-treatment chemicals still in them.

thank you for replying. i would love to have some fun with my older dipes and i think dying them would be fun is there a brand of dye you have good results with or a site that teaches about natural dyes?

I use Procion MX fiber reactive dyes, sold at Dharma Trading and Prochemical and Dye. They are pretty simple to use and pretty safe with standard precautions i.e. dust mask when mixing dye powder and gloves to keep from having colorful hands.

They will also give you great results; colorfast and washfast and real pretty too!

Paula Burch has a great comparison and safety info. on different types of dyes too.

Yep, I used Dharma fiber reactive dye, too. They have all the instructions you need, right there on their website.
