Affects of past depression

Thread Starter
When I was in middle/ high school, I had severe clinical depression. After being on meds for many years, and mostly off them now, I still feel like I'm in a dysthymic state most of the time. (I've also been diagnosed with PMDD). I'm just wondering if having depression during those critical developmental years messed with my brain wiring somewhat. Anyone know anything about this?

I'm not sure. but I would think it would indicate that you have a chemical imbalance- then and now.

Bumping this read because I have a similar history.

I doubt anyone really knows. Clearly things weren't set up too well to start out with or you wouldn't have had the issues in middle/high school. Whether that predisposition expressing itself leads to further change... it'll be a while before we understand our brains that well.

The good news is, there are lots of helpful tools to help you feel better.

"Dysthimic state" that's generally how I feel when I've considered myself in remission. Then a stressor comes along and I nose dive. Take care of yourself.
