i was told malabrigo yarn bleeds so i want to prevent that from hapening. i was htinking of soaking the longies i made in water overnight..would that make them bleed out so that they won't continue bleeding thereafter?

I also think soaking in white vinegar helps set the color...

You'd need heat as well- but remember, they're longies. You're going to soak them in water anyhow when you lanolise

i was gonna post this question too about malabrigo.

do you do hot water and vinegar first and then lanolize???

how hot? boiling hot? hand washing hot?

I believe a soak in hot soapy water does the trick. Just be careful not to swish! Malabrigo felts like crazy. I will say that I've knit with malabrigo a lot and have never had a bleeding problem.

really? Both times I've used it (different colors) I have ended up with hands the color of the yarn! And it's not like my hands were sweaty or anything.

Yeah, I've knit with 5-6 different colors and it's never been a problem for me.

It sounds like an issue with rinsing i.e. the yarn is minimally rinsed therefore it is still bleeding. Try the rinsing suggestion zoebugsmom made. Maybe repeat it a few times to get a thorough rinse. Also, it might help to get a textile detergent like Synthaprol. It will help keep the dye that has leached out into the water from re-immersing itself in the yarn, thus making your rinsing more efficient.
